Curator’s statement

I planned a trip to Tulum for my first birthday celebration after the COVID pandemic. It was a mix of relaxing in the sun, yoga, healthy food and late night fun!

Day 1

Hotel accommodation outside of the main Tulum stretch along the beach.

Arrive in Tulum

We pre-arranged pickup from our hotel, which made it easier despite the chaos of arriving at Cancun airport. It's about two hours by car from Cancun to Tulum, so once we arrived at the hotel, we explored the grounds and enjoyed the grounds. The hotel was located outside the main Tulum stretch along the beach - so it was extremely peaceful and quiet. Pre-booked dinner in Tulum near the beach, a great start to the trip.

Day 2

Fire dancers performing in a circle of onlookers.

Enjoyed morning yoga at our hotel, and had breakfast/lunch at the hotel's vegan cafe. Spent the day at the pool, and went to dinner in town - highly recommend Hartwood Tulum for seafood and daily specials. After dinner, enjoyed cocktails and dancing.

Day 3

A beach club overlooking a lagoon

Spent my birthday at one of the local cenotes Buuts' Ha' Cenote Club which was beautiful and the food at the restaurant was excellent. Book in advance, and arrange a cab to and from the Club - when we were leaving, there were not many cabs available. Spent the evening celebrating and dancing at one of the clubs along the beach.

Day 4

A white closet with clothes and handbags in it.

We walked into town for local tacos and some shopping, there are a few stores that import goods from all over Mexico (clothing, etc. as well as home goods) such as Nakawe Trading and lots of local spots with handmade goods. Afterwards, we had dinner and cocktails in town.

Day 5

Blue pool with beach hammocks on either side.

On our last day, we enjoyed morning yoga and breakfast at the hotel, some time at the pool and packed up. We were sad to leave such a beautiful and relaxing hotel, but look forward to visiting again!

Additional days

Small, wooden motor boat parked on clear ocean water

If you spend additional days in the area, you could arrange a boat day (departing from Cancun) or visit the Mayan ruins.
