Frequently asked questions

Business questions

How much does it cost to join Fora, and what do I get with my membership?

We offer two subscription options: $99/quarter or $299/year. Your membership includes access to everything Fora provides for travel advisors—our custom booking portal, 700+ on-demand training videos, 20+ hours of live support each week, advisor-focused tools (like itineraries, proposals, and price tracking), preferred partner relationships, commission collection on your behalf, and more.

How long does it typically take for advisors to earn their first commission?

Many advisors make their first booking within two weeks after joining–sometimes days if they already have travelers in mind.

Commission can only be collected from a supplier once your client's trip ends (e.g. they check out of their hotel). This process can take anywhere from two weeks to three months. As soon as funds are received, you'll be notified and paid out via direct deposit or bank transfer. Fora pays commissions on a rolling two-week basis, around the 15th and 30th of every month.

What is Fora’s commission structure?

We offer a competitive commission split: 70/30, where you keep the larger 70% portion. Advisors are eligible for an increased commission split of 80/20 after selling $300,000 of travel in the calendar year. This threshold resets annually.

Do I need to set up an LLC or can I operate as a contractor?

You can join Fora either as a 1099 independent contractor or through a legal entity (an LLC or S-Corp).

If you start out as a 1099 independent contractor and later decide it makes more sense to run your business under a legal entity, that’s completely fine—you can make that switch at any time.

Does Fora provide insurance for travel advisors?

Yes! All advisors are covered by our Errors & Omissions insurance policy, provided that the claim is brought against Fora in the United States. You can read more about our E&O policy here.

Does Fora hold a Seller of Travel (SOT) license in California, Florida, or Washington?

Yes! Fora is a registered Seller of Travel in CA, FL, and WA. If you live in one of these states, you’ll need to register your travel advising business with our Seller of Travel license after signing up. You’ll receive an email from our team with instructions on how to register, along with the option to join a monthly SOT Q&A if you have further questions.

How do I build a personal brand as a travel advisor?

A strong personal brand is built on authenticity, expertise, and consistency. Fora’s training gives you the tools and guidance to craft a brand that resonates with your ideal clients and sets you apart in the industry.

Can I maintain my own brand while affiliated with Fora?

Yes! You’re free to build your own brand and marketing materials while still leveraging Fora’s platform, tools, and supplier relationships behind the scenes. This can include logos, visuals, and content you create independently, giving you full flexibility to showcase your personal brand.

Client management

What happens if something goes wrong during a client’s trip?

You’ll be your clients’ main point of contact, but you won’t be on your own—we provide dedicated training to help you confidently manage expectations and handle any issues that arise.

How do I set boundaries with clients while still providing great service?

Set communication expectations early, use clear policies, and rely on tools and templates we provide to help you maintain balance.

What’s the best way to handle pricing changes or trip cancellations?

Set expectations early with a clear cancellation policy. It saves everyone headaches later. And thanks to our price drop tool, you’ll be the hero who rebooks your client at a lower rate without them even asking. It’s the kind of move that turns a one-time booking into a repeat client.

Industry knowledge

What’s the difference between using Fora Reserve and booking through online travel sites?

Fora Reserve gives clients VIP perks at top hotels, like upgrades and daily breakfast, with the highest commission rates available. OTAs can’t say the same.

What are DMCs, and when should I use them?

DMCs (Destination Management Companies) are in-country experts who help plan complex or custom travel. They’re great for group travel and unique experiences.

Can I book cruises, flights, and other types of travel through Fora?

Yes! Fora provides access to cruise lines, flights, insurance, group travel, and more. Plus, we provide training on how to book each type.

Career growth

What kind of time commitment does it take to be successful as a Fora Advisor?

Being a Fora Advisor is completely flexible. There are no required hours, quotas, or minimums—you decide how much time to dedicate based on your goals. Some advisors spend just a few hours a week as a part-time advisor, while others commit to travel advising as a full-time business.

How much income can I earn as an advisor?

Your income as a Fora Advisor depends on how you want to build your business. Many advisors start part-time while balancing careers in education, healthcare, finance, and other fields, while others scale into a full-time business.

Earnings are ultimately shaped by the number of clients you work with, the volume and price point of the bookings you make, and the commission rates offered by suppliers.

What does advisor support look like at Fora?

Our support team is available via live support sessions or email. Whether it’s a quick question about commissions, a supplier login, or a second set of eyes on your first booking, our support team is here to help.

What training is available to advisors?

Fora offers both live and on-demand training to support you at every stage of your business. Your membership includes access to 700+ pre-recorded sessions covering topics including destinations, how to get clients, and marketing, plus weekly live webinars and Q&A support.

When you join, you’ll start with a kickoff onboarding call and our Essentials course, which is designed to introduce you to Fora and the fundamentals of travel advising so you can feel confident booking travel right away.

What’s the difference between being a Fora Advisor, Fora Pro, and Fora X? How do I level up?

Fora offers different advisor tiers based on your sales and engagement.

  • Fora Advisor: The starting point for all advisors, with access to the platform, training, community, and 70/30 commission split.

  • Fora Pro Advisor: Earned by selling $100,000+ in annual commissionable bookings within a calendar year, booking 10 unique clients, and receiving 5 client reviews. Pro Advisors gain access to additional industry benefits such as FAM trips, partner logins, travel advisor (TA) rates, and CLIA membership.

  • Fora X Advisor: Invitation-only, offered to top-performing advisors who meet higher booking thresholds and are active in the Fora community.

Should I charge planning fees, and how do I set them?

We don't encourage brand new advisors to get started with charging their clients planning fees. However, you can choose to incorporate planning fees into your business structure at any time, adjusting your fee based on trip complexity and your experience. Included in your training are lessons on how to establish and communicate about planning fees to your clients.

Is Fora an MLM?

No. Advisors work independently, and earnings come directly from the travel you book, not from recruiting others.
