Here is a seven-day itinerary to help you make the most of your visit.

There are plenty of things to do in Krakow, Poland. It's a university city with plenty of art, history and excellent restaurants. English is widely spoken in tourist areas making it easy to explore. The old town is easily walkable, with cute little streets and alleys to discover. For a change of scenery, Zakopane is an easy day trip with plenty of hiking and nature sightings away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Poland, in general, is a safe and easy country for women and solo travelers, making it an excellent destination to visit in eastern Europe.

After years of talking about visiting the Christmas markets in Europe, my family finally decided to make this trip a reality. We were a large family group of 15 people spanning the ages of six months all the way to 60 years, so we needed to prioritize budget and ease of travel. While we researched all the popular and more well-known markets in Germany, France, and beyond, we were on the hunt for a more budget-friendly and under-the-radar destination. We kept coming back to Poland and finally decided it was the perfect place for us. We had an amazing time exploring this often-overlooked country and we can’t wait to head back in other seasons to explore all that Poland has to offer.

Poland is both part of my genes and my soul, and one place in Europe that should be on your radar. It's a stunning mix of history, resilience and culture and an unforgettable destination. Poland is a great place to visit year-round, though my favorite time is May or October. It's an extremely religious country so keep in mind Roman Catholic holidays will mean lots of things are shut down, but it can also be the perfect time to slow down and experience Poland as the locals know it.
