Saint Maarten is a place where magic seems to weave itself into everyday moments. From my first visit years ago (which happened to include my engagement!) to my annual returns, this dual-nation island continues to captivate me with its perfect blend of cultures, flavors and adventures. Each time I return, I discover something new – whether it's a hidden beach cove, a local café serving the most amazing johnnycakes or simply a different way the sunset paints the sky over Orient Bay. It's an island that feels both familiar and fresh, where every visit writes a new story while honoring the memories of those that came before.

Visiting the French side of St. Martin feels like stepping into the south of France—think cobblestone streets and chic cafés—but with the laid-back charm of the Caribbean. In Marigot, the island’s charming capital, you can wander through colorful markets, indulge in world-class French-Caribbean cuisine in Grand Case, or relax on the powdery shores of Orient Bay. It’s a rare blend of European elegance and tropical ease, all just a short flight from the US. Whether you’re sipping rosé at sunset or exploring lush trails at Loterie Farm, this side of the island offers a slice of France without the long-haul flight.

In January 2025, I needed a hotel for one night before our cruise departing from St. Maarten. This hotel is newly renovated and offers a peaceful escape from the main beat on the Dutch side of the island. Hotel rooms are beautifully appointed and we enjoyed the on-site dining as well. I would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a luxury experience and quieter pace of vacation.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I booked my most recent trip to St. Martin this past March.
