Lake Tahoe is a not-so-hidden West Coast gem that makes you forget you haven't actually left the United States. Recently I had the opportunity to stay at the Marriott Timber Lodge in South Lake Tahoe. My husband and I stayed in the King Villa. Each villa contains a full kitchen, dining table and sitting area in addition to the bedroom. The bedroom had a king bed, a small closet, bathtub and connecting bathroom. It was exactly what we needed for our quick ski trip.

The turquoise waters of Lake Tahoe invite you from beach shores to tourist shopping and dining. There’s something special for every member of the family. Driving distance vacations are important to many, as this centrally located destination checks all the boxes. Tahoe should truly be on every American’s bucket list. Lake Tahoe holds a special place in my heart because it’s been the backdrop of cherished family memories for over 40 years. Our family of five has spent countless summers and winters in our vacation home on the beautiful West Shore, in the charming community of Homewood, California. From hiking scenic trails, skiing the mountain trail to relaxing on sandy beaches, Tahoe offers a perfect mix of adventure and serenity. It’s more than just a destination — it’s a great place where bonds grow stronger.

South Lake Tahoe is one of those places that everyone raves about, and I used to wonder if it was really as amazing as people said. After visiting, I realized it truly is that incredible. As someone who loves traveling and showing my kids the world, sometimes we just need to reconnect with nature and the beauty of the Earth. South Lake Tahoe offers just that. Plus, when your kids keep asking to go back months later, you know it’s a special place.
