As such, we’ve gathered a few useful tips below to help you get an idea of when to visit Puerto Rico to do the things you’re interested in doing. The best time to visit Puerto Rico for good weather

As we said, there’s not really a bad time to travel to Puerto Rico. There are always things to explore in cities like San Juan (see our guide), but we get it. When you’re spending money on a trip, you want the best of the best.

So, when is the best time to visit Puerto Rico for good weather? It depends. Here are a few things to consider.

Hurricane season runs from August through September

One of the questions people ask Fora Advisors all the time: when is hurricane season? To which we reply, late summer.

There are two pieces of good news here. First, Puerto Rico’s location tends to spare it from the worst hurricanes (aside from the recent tragedy of Hurricane Maria), so it’s pretty unlikely that you’ll encounter one.

Second, the slight change in weather conditions during this period is actually a benefit for those looking for more adventurous things to do in Puerto Rico, like surfing.

Puerto Rico’s rainy season stretches from May to December

Outside of the El Yunque rainforest – which makes for a great day trip from San Juan – Puerto Rico’s rainy season really isn’t that bad.

Summer and fall tend to see moderate rain, while early spring is fairly dry. If you’re at all concerned about the weather raining on your vacation parade, a Fora Advisor can provide insider tips on how to make the best of it, or when and where you’re least likely to see rain.

The hottest months of the year: June through October, especially July

By most accounts, the best places to visit in Puerto Rico are its beaches. Summer and fall are the hottest months, with temperatures hovering around the mid- to high-80s, which is prime beach weather.

However, if you prefer more temperate weather, we’d recommend visiting between November and May instead.

The best time to visit Puerto Rico for the activities

For some, the question of when to visit Puerto Rico is less about the weather and more about the experiences offered. Your Puerto Rico trip planner can absolutely help you synthesize the two, but here are a few more tips.

Late summer through fall is the cheapest time to go to Puerto Rico

Many of the best places to stay in Puerto Rico lower their rates between September and December, which loosely correlates with back-to-school and the Christmas season (which is massively celebrated in Puerto Rico).

Of course, booking with a Fora Advisor means hotel upgrades and perks galore, allowing you to save money and splurge elsewhere.

Fall and spring are the best times to avoid crowds

If you’re looking for a romantic Puerto Rico getaway, fall and spring see the fewest tourists (meaning a quieter, more intimate trip).

But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean there’s less to do during these months. Check out our Puerto Rico culture guide and guide to restaurants for year-round activities and attractions.

April and May (i.e., after spring break) is the best time to visit Puerto Rico for families

Come mid-April, most of the spring-breakers have returned home, which means there are a lot more kid-friendly things to do in Puerto Rico and family-friendly things to do in Old San Juan.

That said, if you are visiting for spring break – or maybe a snazzy Puerto Rico bachelorette party – check out our guide to Old San Juan’s nightlife (there are a lot of things to do in Old San Juan).
