Curator’s statement

Whether you want to have a slow day on the beach, or an adventure on the sea — Kauai has so many options. Kauai is paradise and not as developed as the other islands so it's important to support local businesses and take care of the earth while you are there. This island is more relaxed than the others as well — it is the epitome of "island life." Need I mention that everywhere you go is beautiful?

Things to do In Kauai, Hawaii

Ridges and mountains along the coast of Kauai on a sunny day.

I recommend seeing Kauai in 3 different ways so you can take in all that the island has to offer.

First, go on a Napali Coast sail — the sights are unbelievable. You'll even get a chance to snorkel and hear about the long history of this coastline.

Next, take a hike on the Hanakapiai Falls. This time you will go IN the Napali coast line instead of seeing them as a view. This hike is an easy 2 miles in to the Hanakapiai Beach. If you want to go further, I recommend trekking 2 more miles up to the Hanakapiai Falls. The water is SO cold and so refreshing. Make sure you pack snacks to eat at the top and drink lots of water because you have a 4 mile trek back to the trailhead. Don't forget to make reservations for the shuttle at this website beforehand - they go fast so set a reminder.

Lastly, go on a helicopter ride or small plane ride. Seeing these views from above is out of this world.

Besides those excursions, I recommend checking out Queens Bath and many other secret beaches such as Puu Poa Beach or Kauapea Secret Beach. Tunnels Beach is a great spot, but not as secret as the other ones.

Coconut stand in Hawaii.

Breakfast

The Spot North Shore Kauai - They have some killer coffee, and some of the best açai bowls around.

Hanalei Bread Company - Need I say more? Their breakfast items and lunch items are top-notch. Get here early because the line is long!

Lunch

Food Trucks Hanalei Bay - Amazing assortment of food trucks whether you want BBQ, a healthy salad or the perfect açai bowl.

Aloha Juice Bar- A great spot for fresh juices, smoothies and açai bowls. These are so filling!

Dinner

Beach House Restaurant - The best one on the south shore in my opinion. Beachfront eatery featuring Pacific Rim cuisine & cocktails, plus striking views during sunset.

Ama - This beautiful restaurant faces the valley and the views are so peaceful. Serves ramen and steamed buns. Don't forget to try a cocktail!

Bar Acuda - It's right next to Ama and has beautiful small plates.
