When I first heard that Fairmont Gold was coming to one of my favorite downtown Toronto hotels, I knew I had to experience it for myself.

What I didn't expect was how high the standard would be set — the renovations that took place at the hotel to shell out this boutique hotel experience are unexplainable and truly must be experienced in person.

From the separate luxury check-in at the lounge to the spaciously appointed all-suite selection, this was a next-level experience.

Newfoundland holds a special place in my heart for several reasons. Firstly, it was a deeply spiritual journey to explore the most northeastern part of Canada, where the rugged coastline meets the Atlantic Ocean in a breathtaking display of nature's beauty. The tranquility and sense of being at the edge of the world left a lasting impression on me.

Secondly, the people of Newfoundland are truly remarkable. Their warmth, generosity and unique sense of hospitality create an atmosphere that feels like coming home, even as a visitor. Whether sharing stories in a local pub or receiving a heartfelt welcome at a small bed and breakfast, the genuine kindness of the Newfoundlanders resonates deeply.

And then there’s the food and live music — truly unforgettable. From freshly caught seafood to hearty traditional dishes, every meal was a celebration of local flavors and culinary heritage. The evenings filled with live music, often featuring fiddles and accordions, added to the island’s charm and made every night an occasion to remember.
