Unforgettable Stay at Kalepo Camp - Samburuland, Kenya
Curator’s statement

During the summer of 2023, I had the incredible opportunity to stay at this breathtaking new safari camp nestled in Northern Kenya. From the accommodations to the cuisine, service and activities, every aspect surpassed my wildest expectations. Without a doubt, this was one of the most remarkable places I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. I'm eagerly looking forward to returning, and I wouldn't hesitate to enthusiastically recommend it to friends, family, and clients.

Arriving by private plane was an immersive beginning to our adventure, transporting us into the heart of an entirely different Kenyan landscape. The scenery shifted dramatically to a lush, verdant terrain, rich with dense forestry, a stark contrast from what we expected. Greeted by our hosts upon landing, our journey truly began as we piled into an open-air jeep, heading towards our home for the next three days: the camp.

The camp itself was a marvel. The tents and communal areas were tasteful, embodying a modern aesthetic while seamlessly blending with the natural surroundings. Every detail exudes thoughtful consideration. From the dining tent and elegant bar to the inviting pool and separate breakfast area, not to mention the spa and gym facilities—each space was meticulously designed for comfort and relaxation.

Our day truly unfolded with a gorgeous lunch that set the tone for the incredible experiences to come. A highlight was the captivating walk through the dry riverbed, a route Joel, our knowledgeable guide and a member of the local Samburu village, led us on. Our visit to the local blacksmith was an enriching immersion into Samburu culture and traditions, providing a glimpse into their craftsmanship and way of life.

Tribal people

Returning to camp, we eased into a relaxing evening by the fire, engaging in games and enjoying the chef's culinary delights. The dinner was nothing short of a feast, a flavorful journey that added another layer to our already extraordinary day. The blend of cultural immersion, relaxation, and culinary excellence made each moment at the camp truly unforgettable.

The following day, we eagerly rose to embark on an eye-opening visit to the local village, a profound experience for our entire family. Engaging with the local elders, learning about their lifestyle, and even trying our hand at milking a goat provided invaluable educational insights, especially for my children.

Our village visit was followed by an awe-inspiring trip to the singing wells, a spectacle that left us captivated as we witnessed the locals tending to their cattle. Returning to camp, we indulged in relaxation by the pool and savored the most incredible brunch of our trip. To our delight, my children had the chance to play soccer with members of the local tribe, fostering beautiful connections beyond language barriers.

Yet, the most remarkable experience was being a part of the local warrior games, an opportunity that left an indelible mark on our hearts. As the day drew to a close, we returned to camp for another fantastic family dinner by the fire, accompanied by the breathtaking sight of elephants at the nearby watering hole. Our affection for this camp grew immensely, and we found ourselves yearning to extend our stay, deeply cherishing every moment spent in this extraordinary place.
