Picture a storybook woodland estate, where the likes of Henry David Thoreau once walked: meadows accented with gazebos and Adirondack chairs; babbling brooks connected by crimson-colored footbridges. Still with us? Now, imagine it dotted with stately stone cottages, each appointed with leather armchairs, roaring fires and the perfect, cozy-yet-chic aesthetic that can only be described as hygge. Add a destination spa and farm-to-table gastronomy, and there you have it: Troutbeck, an intimate destination resort located in Amenia, NY.
The Fora HQ team recently visited this bucolic Hudson Valley hotel, just two hours' driving from Manhattan (making it an ideal add-on to a vacation to NYC). And we could not stop swooning. At Troutbeck, accommodations are delightfully understated in design — muted colors, sleek four-poster beds and plenty of natural light — with luxurious amenities like Frette linens and Bluetooth audio. Fireplaces, handsome couches and shelves stacked with charmingly weathered books abound.
When not exploring the estate (on foot or via the complimentary bicycles), playing tennis or relaxing in the many Instagrammable common areas, Troutbeck resort guests can choose from a variety of wellness experiences. These include yoga, pilates, meditation, acupuncture and spiritual workshops, and a variety of therapies like infrared sauna and massages.
Dining at Troutbeck is reason enough to visit. Using only the freshest ingredients sourced from the Hudson Valley’s local bounty, Chef Gabe McMackin serves new American cuisine that’s not only elevated and sophisticated, but unfussy and delicious. Don't miss the pitch-perfect chocolate-chip cookies (you'll thank us later).
Troutbeck is a true home-run of a property, and (wholeheartedly) recommended for just about any type of traveler. Another plus: it's a pet-friendly hotel.
