What’s the best area of Portland to stay in?

Broadly speaking, Downtown is the liveliest part of the city, and it’s also home to many of the best hotels in Portland (like those below). That said, there are other areas, like East Portland, that can be fun to visit depending on your plans.

    1. the Nines, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Portland: a luxe hotel with a unique sense of style in the heart of Downtown

Stylish and unique, the Nines hotel exhibits Portland’s ritzier side with plush accommodations and a vivid decor style. Given the hotel’s historic façade, you’d be forgiven for expecting vintage furnishings and early 20th-century glamor. Instead, you’ll be met with a youthful, contemporary style that feels at home in quirky Portland. There are certainly elements of the hotel’s past (think glass chandeliers, ornate floral prints and the like), but this hotel feels fresh.

It’s also in an excellent location if you’re keen on exploring Portland’s trendy Downtown, with tons of shops and casual restaurants all in the immediate vicinity. The Portland Art Museum is only a few blocks away, too. The MAX Light Rail line is also right next to the Nines, adding even more convenience.

    Fora Perks at the Nines:

    • $100 food / beverage credit.

    • Breakfast daily.

    • Upgrade & extended check-in/out whenever possible.

    2. Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel: one of the coziest boutique hotels in Portland

The RiverPlace Hotel is a great choice whether you’re looking for a traditional hotel room to use as a base for exploring the city or a homey, waterfront cottage for larger gatherings or workcations.

Both accommodation options feature decor inspired by the area’s waterfront setting, offering a cozy yet delightfully lavish experience. Moreover, the vibe at The RiverPlace Hotel is exceptionally chill. A variety of boutiques and other shops line waterfront trails, while the river and marina offer a pleasant atmosphere away from the bustle of more urban sections of Downtown.

Fora Perks at The RiverPlace Hotel:

    • $50 hotel / resort credit.

    • Breakfast daily.

    • Upgrade & late check-out whenever possible.

    3. Hotel Grand Stark: a bespoke hotel in East Portland with an indie vibe

Hotel Grand Stark shares a common theme with the Nines in that it leans heavily on Portland’s indie vibe. And in many ways, the two hotels are pretty similar. However, Hotel Grand Stark trades the Nines’ low-key elegance for a sophisticated yet accessible style. It's also located right next to the Portland Streetcar line.

And speaking of, location is a big factor. Whereas the Nines is found in the busy center of Downtown Portland, Hotel Grand Stark calls hip East Portland home instead. Both areas are worth checking out, but the latter is a bit more casual.
