Things to do in New Orleans
The Sazerac House: For a deeper dive into the history of New Orleans and the iconic Sazerac, The Sazerac House offers a free self-guided tour with a tasting at the end (for guests over 21). Be sure to reserve a time online. They also offer a variety of other tastings ranging from $30-45.
St. Louis Cathedral: The Cathedral is one of New Orleans famous landmarks. It stands behind Jackson Square. It is open daily from 10-4 PM and closed on Sundays. It is open to the public for self-guided tours or by a volunteer upon reservation. St. Louis Cathedral is still an active church and might be closed at certain times/days for events.
Voodoo, Ghost, and Cemetery Walking Tour: A walking tour that provides history into the extraordinary past of the city. There is an adults-only tour that is offered in the evening for a spooky adventure. I can assist with tickets through our Partner Program, Viator.
Jackson Square: After visiting the Cathedral, you’ll step out into Jackson Square which is filled with street entertainers, palm readers, and artists. The unique art found hanging on the surrounding fence is worth a look around. Grab a drink (and a beignet) and peruse what Jackson Square has to offer.
French Market: This 5-block-long open-air market hosts vendors from all over the city with crafts, souvenirs, art, and everything in between. When I went recently, a local author was there doing a book signing. You never know what you’ll find!
Places to eat & drink in New Orleans
Napoleon House: This is a perfect spot to stop for lunch when exploring the French Quarter. For a real taste of New Orleans, get a muffuletta and a Pimm’s cup.
Domenica: If you’re staying at the Roosevelt, this is an added bonus. Domenica is located inside the hotel. It boasts a fantastic happy hour between 3-5 PM daily with half-priced wines by the glass and pizzas. I highly recommend the white pizza!
Arnauds: This French-inspired restaurant is located in the heart of the French Quarter. From white tablecloths to tableside bananas foster, Arnaud’s will not disappoint. A few classics (and my favorites): shrimp Arnaud, souffle potatoes, filet mignon au poivre, and bananas foster.
Port of Call: Had a long night out in the city? This world-famous place is known for its burgers! Pro tip: add the mushrooms. Get a Monsoon if you need a little hair of the dog.
Mr B’s: I had to add this vibrant restaurant for one main reason – New Orleans BBQ Shrimp. This traditional dish is served with head and tail on, and they prepare you with a bib! Quite an experience!
Justine: This Instagram-worthy gem is great for brunch or dinner. Check out Open Table to snag a table. For brunch, the bread pudding French toast sticks are a delicious starter. I always go for the steak tartare on the dinner menu.
Loretta’s: This is tucked away in the French Market among all of the other goodies and vendors. The praline-filled beignet is phenomenal! It doesn’t compare to the others in the city! Hop over to Cafe Du Monde and see which is your favorite.
