Things to do
Cenote Chaak Tun: Explore, swim and snorkle in these low lit caverns with natural pools and stalactites.
Ultramar ferry Playa Del Carmen ferry terminal to Cozumel: This luxury ferry will transport you in just 20 min across the Yucatan Peninsula to the Island of Cozumel for the day. Ferries run every hour. There are two ferry companies: one takes 45 min to cross the waters of the Yucatan and the other is Ultramar which is only 20 min. The ferry is FAST and fun. Luxurious with indoor air conditioned cabins and outdoor areas upstairs where you can enjoy the sea breeze and perfect views of the crystal blue waters.
Atlantis Submarine in Cozumel, Mexico: Take a boat to a real submarine in the reefs of Cozumel and see the amazing coral reefs in the Caribbean sea more than 100 feet down at sea. These reefs are as beautiful as the reefs in Turks and Caicos and Australia. I have taken this excursion and it is an experience I will never forget. Absolutely breathtaking.
Congo Bongo, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico: Amazing impersonators, wild shows that are electric and showcase the Caribbean and its culture. State of the art audio and video equipment will leave you in awe. When I stayed at the Paradisius I was given VIP tickets and the show was high energy, breathtaking to watch and another experience that I will remember.
Xcaret Park in Cancun, Mexico: This park has more than 50 attractions perfect for couples and families alike. Swim in the underground river, touch and see the birds in the Aviary, check out the butterflies in the Butterfly Garden and feed yourself on traditional Mexican dishes that will have your mouth watering. I had such an amazing day at Xcaret Park. My highlights were the underground river and seeing the amazing tropical birds in the Aviary that I could touch and see in their natural habitat rather than cages.
5th Avenue, center of town Playa Del Carmen: Shops, dance clubs galore with amazing DJ's and great food both familiar and traditional. I love 5th ave and its vibrancy and bustle day and night. I go there for the nightlife as I love EDM music. You will find everything from traditional Mexican foods and shops to the familiar like Harley Davison and Hagen Das. If you like EDM music and hearing amazing DJ's you will love the nightlife on 5th Ave with one Bar/Club after another with all the dance music you could ask for.
Gastón Charó Gallery Playa Del Carmen: This gallery is beautiful!!! I love art and Mexican Art does not disappoint! The gallery was founded in the year 2000 by renowned artist Gaston Charo. But don't think you will only see Gaston's artwork - he is a big supporter of other artists and you will see more than 40 artist on display at this beautiful gallery that gave me the perfect dose of art and culture of Mexico.
Pyramids of Chichen Itza: These amazing Pyramids are a sight to be seen and breathtaking to stand in front of, let alone walk up to. While it may be a 2.5 hour drive each way, what you will experience will be well worth the ride. Even though I could have gone to a smaller archeological site in Tulum that was only about an hour away I was told its not as breathtaking.
Places to eat & drink
Chez Céline: Great French breakfast spot. There Croque Madame is to die for!!!
Sotavento: Dine alfresco on the beach under the moonlight. The food was amazing and the service was really on point.
Ah Cacao Chocolate Cafe: Handcrafted coffee and sweets direct from the farm to your mouth. This was my favorite way to satisfy my sweet tooth. The Mexican coffee is amazing and their corn cake is like a cheesecake made with ground corn and vanilla. If you want a truly unique dessert that will capture the essence of Mexico this one is to die for!
