Curator’s statement
San Diego is one of those destinations that just feels easy from the moment you arrive. It offers the perfect balance of beach, great food, and things to do without ever feeling rushed or overwhelming. For me, it’s a place where you can slow down, enjoy the moment, and still experience a little bit of everything. It’s the kind of trip that leaves you feeling relaxed and recharged, which is exactly what I look for when I travel.

We spent four days in San Diego and stayed at Legacy Resort & Spa, which was a great home base for the trip. It’s centrally located, making it easy to get to the harbor, Little Italy, and the beaches without feeling like you’re constantly driving. The property itself has a relaxed, clean feel, and the spa was a standout for me. I booked a trio spa package during our stay, and it was the perfect way to slow down and build in some downtime. I always recommend adding something like this into a trip if relaxation is part of your goal.
One of the things I loved most about San Diego is how easy it is to mix experiences without overplanning. We started our trip at the harbor and had lunch at Mitch’s Seafood, which was a great introduction to the city. From there, we kept our days flexible, which allowed us to explore different areas without feeling rushed. Little Italy was a highlight, especially dinner at Crudos, which had a great atmosphere and fresh, high-quality food.

Since my husband is an avid skateboarder, we made a stop at Washington Street Skate Park, which added a really personal touch to the trip. I always think it’s important to build in something specific to your interests because that’s what makes a trip feel unique.
We also spent time in Ocean Beach, which has a more laid-back, local vibe compared to other areas. That night we had dinner at Blue Water Seafood, which was easily one of the best meals of the trip. The shrimp cocktail, mussels, and clams were great to start, and for dinner I had fresh rockfish while my husband had scallops. One of the highlights is their fresh seafood counter, where you can choose your fish and have it prepared your way, which makes the experience feel a little more interactive and special.

I would recommend San Diego for couples, families, or really anyone looking for a trip that feels easy and balanced. It’s ideal if you want a mix of beach time, good food, and light exploring without a packed schedule. This is a destination where you don’t need to overplan to have a great experience, and that’s part of what makes it so appealing.

Need to know
San Diego is one of those destinations where you don’t need to overplan. It’s better to have a general outline and leave room to explore and enjoy the pace of the city.
The weather is usually mild, but it can be a little unpredictable, especially near the coast. I’d recommend bringing a light jacket and even a small umbrella just in case, particularly in the mornings and evenings when it can be cooler than expected.
If you’re planning to visit popular areas like Little Italy or Ocean Beach, give yourself time to really enjoy them instead of rushing through. These spots are best experienced at a slower pace.
And if you enjoy seafood, make it a priority while you’re there. The freshness and quality really stand out and can easily be one of the highlights of your trip.
