Having lived in San Diego for years, I've grown to love the unique character of the neighborhoods that make up the city.  Lovingly referred to by its residents as "America's Finest City," San Diego is located right on the border with Mexico and boasts some of the best Mexican food in the US as a result.  But don't be fooled, San Diego has much more of a culinary scene than just Mexican food.  Check out the best places to eat and drink in America's Finest City and let's start planning your trip!

San Diego: the oft-forgotten little sister of the behemoth city to the north. The charm of visiting lies not particularly in the downtown area — although there are a few noteworthy things to see and do — but in its beach towns just up the coast. I’m referring specifically to the stops from La Jolla up to Oceanside. This area is my playground. Let me introduce you.

My first experience at The Lafayette was many years ago when my bridal party hosted my bachelorette weekend at this hip North Park Hotel. More recently this property has undergone a 31 million dollar transformation. We occupied two very different rooms at The Lafayette. A pool side two queen and a two bedroom bungalow. I would recommend this hotel to any client looking to for a unique boutique hotel experience.

Torrey Pines is up there with some of the most iconic courses in the country along with Pebble Beach Golf Links, PGA West, Pinehurst, Troon North and Bandon Dunes to name a few. Although Torrey Pines is a public course managed by the city of San Diego, getting a tee time can be challenging. San Diego is such a beautiful and underrated city! It has a much more relaxed and laid-back vibe than Los Angeles. I lived in San Diego for a year and absolutely loved it -- the beautiful beaches, friendly people, gorgeous sunsets and endless outdoor activities. What more can you ask for?

In the past 12 years, I have had the great fortune to stay at the Four Seasons Aviara, a Residence Club in San Diego, several times. A family friend owns a timeshare at this wonderful resort, and I have spent several enjoyable respites on property. The residences are spacious and customizable so you can host anything from large families with multiple rooms to a romantic getaway for two. In the summer, my family of 18 booked multiple units at the Four Seasons Aviara and used it as home base to explore Carlsbad and San Diego, as well as day trips to Los Angeles and Catalina Island. There is so much to do for all ages in this part of California and the perfect weather — sunny almost every day! — makes for a great vacation year-round.

Between wildflowers, sand dollars, surfers and a safari park, San Diego is the gift that keeps on giving. There are so many options in forms of entertainment. You could spend a lifetime exploring, and still only scratch the surface. Ideal for both young families and multi-generational alike. Excellent as a romantic jaunt. Perfect for that girl's getaway. Wonderful to wander solely on your own - San Diego is its own splendid highlight reel!
