Weekend Guide: Seattle

Curated by
Alicia Anderson
I have been lucky enough to call Seattle home for nearly 10 years. I’ve also had the pleasure of working closely with some of the best hotels in the area during that time to get to know what they have to offer. It’s a destination that offers nature, adventure, as well as arts and culture all at close range. The Emerald City has a lot to offer visitors all year round, but as the weather warms up in the summer, the best things to do and places to eat expand.

As hot temperatures soar worldwide, Alaska beckons cool-climate-seeking travelers with stunning scenery, captivating wildlife and heaps of adventure. Cruising, especially on a small liner, is the simplest and most comprehensive way to explore Alaska, particularly the inside passage. Make the most of your upcoming Alaskan cruise by combining it with pre- or post-trip exploration of Seattle and Vancouver.

Site Inspection at Palihotel Seattle

In February 2024, I had the pleasure to visit the Palihotel Seattle for a site visit. I had the opportunity to tour a selection of the hotel’s 96 guest rooms, enjoy lunch at The Hart and The Hunter restaurant and spend the afternoon in the cozy lobby lounge. I recommend the Palihotel for any traveler who wants to be in the heart of the action, as the Palihotel is conveniently located across the street from Seattle’s famous Pike Place market and scenic waterfront — perfect for those who want to be out and about and enjoy a true Pacific Northwest experience.

Week-long Stay in British Columbia and Seattle

While many summer travelers head across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe, or in the opposite direction to Asia, a trip to the Pacific Northwest is a solid option, especially if your plan is to explore the outdoors in milder temperatures. Start at the adventure mecca that is Whistler, where activities are plentiful throughout the year. Vancouver offers just the right blend of natural beauty and the conveniences that come with a modern city. Lastly, Washington State's versions of mountain peaks, lakes and islets are not to be missed.

Food, adventure and nature off the coast of Seattle: Orcas Island

Curated by
Sara Jeanne Gulley
Orcas Island - The moment you drive off the ferry onto this Pacific Northwest getaway in the San Juan Islands, you can feel your whole being relax. You are surrounded by the most magnificent views everywhere you look. There is water all around of course, but there is also Moran State Park with its winding roads leading to the high peak of Mount Constitution. At the center of Orcas is the lovely town of Eastsound with its delightful cafes and shops. There are the different fingers of the island, each adding its own flavor to the local culture. You can completely unwind and relax here simply soaking up the view from a steamy hot tub, or you can go all out with adventure, or ideally you will do a bit of both!

The Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle is a landmark of luxury and elegance, blending historic charm with modern sophistication. Located in the heart of downtown, this iconic hotel offers luxurious accommodations, exceptional dining and world-class service. With its rich history and prime location near Seattle's top attractions, the Fairmont Olympic promises an unforgettable stay.
I have stayed here numerous times, and each time I fall more in love with this historic Seattle gem. Between their incredible lobby bar to their afternoon tea and great dining, this hotel is wonderful. If you visit during the holidays with your children, plan to visit their teddy bear suite, which is always a delight for me and my Seattle-based nieces.
As a FORA Pro Advisor, I’d be delighted to assist you in planning your visit to this luxurious Seattle destination.

My travel philosophy is simple: "Traveling far, learning wide, growing deep." For me, travel is more than just visiting new places — it's about broadening perspectives, connecting with the world and its people and delving deep into the beauty and diversity that surrounds us.
I love travel for its ability to push us beyond our comfort zones and mundane routines, encouraging us to embrace new experiences and live life to the fullest.
