Vienna Vignettes: Hidden Gems & Iconic Landmarks

Curated by
Noelle Rudloff
In June of 2024, I spent an immersive week in Vienna with the Vienna Tourism Board, getting to know this amazing city and visiting the typical tourist attractions, along with many hidden gems. What I learned is that Vienna should quickly move to the top of everyone’s must-visit list. It is elegant and sophisticated, yet maintains a warmth and friendliness not often experienced in many European cities. A walk through the streets is a walk through a living and incredibly beautiful museum. An excellent alternative to Paris or Rome.

Between the numerous museums with iconic collections and the impressive palaces, you will never run out of awe inspiring activities in Vienna. The walkable nature of the city lets the average tourist explore everything by foot while being able to pop into any of the city's iconic cafes or restaurants.

Vienna has a special place in my heart because I lived there for a season! This beautiful city can be explored via its food scene, nature escapes or rich history. My personal favorite way to explore is by wandering to different coffee houses or cafes throughout the city. In the spring, adventure to Kahlenburg outside of the city for wine tastings and vineyard views. In the winter, Vienna is a place of holiday cheer with various Christmas markets and ice skating at Rathausplatz (city hall). The city is full of history with its museums and architecture. Explore your way through the districts by restaurant hopping at Vienna's best dining spots!

There is something romantic and historic about traveling city-to-city in Europe by sleeper train. It's also efficient, sustainable and comfortable. The experience might just be a highlight of your trip. We're living in a true renaissance for overnight train lovers, as low-cost carriers recently threatened to eliminate sleepers entirely. Now, new routes are flourishing, classic city pairs are back and train operators are investing in state-of-the-art train cars with smart amenities and modern touches. Driven by a loyal fan base and an important focus on sustainability, you'll find getting from capital to capital super easy, and a perfect addition to your European journey.

3 Days in Vienna for Food and Wine Lovers

Curated by
Lindsay Vickerman
Considered the cosmopolitan capital of Europe, Vienna may be beloved for its famous opera houses, palaces and museums, but its excellent food and wine scene is not to be overlooked. Of all the capitals of the world, Vienna stands out as the only one with a significant wine industry within its limits. Numerous wineries (and associated iconic wine gardens) are an easy tram ride away from the city center. The historic grand coffee houses, indulgent bakeries and abundant locally sourced produce also make Vienna an enticing foodie destination. Three days is just enough time to taste what this magnificent city has to offer and provide a temptation to return.
