72 Hours in Venice

Curated by

Venice is one of those cities that ticks all the boxes — there's culture, art, fantastic food, even more fantastic hotels. It's a true "city" break but has a feeling of not being a real city, perhaps because you're surrounded by water. There's so much to do, that you could easily be there for a week and not see or do everything, but here are some of my top tips.

The Solo Traveler's Guide to Italy: Sorrento, Rome & Venice

Curated by
A'Rielle Thomas
When traveling solo, my favorite way to immerse myself in a new destination is by foot, and of course, the Italians have a sexy word for it: Passaggiata. This word is used to describe a leisurely walk or stroll, typically taken in the evenings in Italian cities. Italy is the perfect destination for solo travelers who want to take advantage of exploring on their own time and can’t just pick one place to visit! Boasting comfy high-speed trains and over 10,000 miles of rail track, you can seamlessly experience the sea, the city and the mountains in one go through Italy. For solo travelers, the walkable cities of Sorrento, Rome and Venice offer delicious Italian cuisine, awe-inspiring historical sites and fabulous wine!

Let's be honest, you could spend a month in Italy and still be left with so much to explore. In this 14-day itinerary, you are going to mostly traverse the northern region with two exceptions: Rome and Sardinia. I originally wrote this itinerary as a honeymoon proposal, so you can bet it is heavy on the romance. What's really amazing is that each area you visit has a vastly different culture than the next. You are truly going to get a little taste of these unique Italian delights. Just be prepared. You will want to come back for more!

Immersive Venice Experience

It’s a travesty that so many tourists end up in Venice on a single-day stopover as part of a cruise. This city on an island (or, technically, a set of connected islands) has so many things to do and such a rich history that I recommend to come and stay for at least a week. Whether you love food, art, architecture, history, or all of the above, Venice has more than enough to keep you entertained and your mind engaged. It’s worth making Venice your main destination rather than an afterthought simply to have more time to spend in this enchanting city.

Italy has just about everything: a floating city, stunning lakeside villas, Tuscan vineyards and medieval hillside towns. It is also the birthplace of the Renaissance. Explore its charming piazza’s and enjoy delicious regional dishes. Wander, indulge and embrace il dolce far niente. Finally, be sure to throw a coin over your shoulder at the Fontana di Trevi as one trip to Italy will surely never be enough.

Two Week Road Trip in Northern Italy

Sometimes it seems Rome and Florence get all the Italian "amore." Sure, there is the timeless allure of Rome and Sicily, effortlessly captivating hearts with their romantic charm for centuries. But amidst their spotlight, Northern Italy quietly awaits in the shadows, brimming with its own treasures. From masterpieces of art to the vast expanse of the world's largest alpine meadow, from meandering canals to the soul-stirring Prosecco countryside, there's a wealth of experiences waiting to be discovered. Many of these spots require access to a rental car, so go get that international driver's license and get ready for an unforgettable Italian road trip.
