Even though Salem is best known for its witches and spooky haunts, it holds a deeper kind of magic for me. The historic charm and centuries-old architecture make every street feel like a step back in time. Beyond the ghost stories, it’s a vibrant coastal town full of seaside restaurants, rich museums, and cultural attractions. Its quaint New England ambiance always leaves me feeling enchanted—no broomstick required.

Salem is a lovely coastal town with an infamous history. Often referred to as the Witch City, you might think it's only kitsch and campy fun, but Salem has more to offer than just magic shops and occult attractions. Yes, the Bewitched statue is at the center of downtown, but just steps away are amazing bars and restaurants, fascinating historical landmarks, and more.

A Break from the City: North Shore of Massachusetts

The North Shore area of Massachusetts has a special place in my heart. Visiting and living here, there's so much more outside of Boston. Think of Gloucester, Salem and Manchester-by-the-Sea to name a few towns. Views of the rocky coastlines, the three-story New England homes and some of the best food I've ever had, all a train ride away from Boston.
If you want to explore Boston and the North Shore towns, Salem is a convenient location to travel by commuter rail. During your stay, visit some of your favorite movies and filming locations such as The Proposal (Rockport & Manchester-by-the-Sea), The Perfect Storm (Gloucester) and Manchester-by-the-Sea (Beverly, Gloucester, and you guessed it: Manchester-by-the Sea).
If you're visiting Boston and want to see other local towns further up the coast, download the "T" MBTA app and head to North Station to get on board the commuter rail!
