Mykonos

Mykonos, often referred to has "the windy island" is a perfect escape for those seeking natural beauty and a fun atmosphere. Beyond the beauty of the island, I was utterly impressed by the exceptional level of service and hospitality displayed by the entire staff that calls Mykonos home for the summer. From the moment I stepped into each property, restaurant, store or car, I was greeted with a genuine eagerness to ensure my experience was perfect. Their dedication and attention to detail truly elevated my vacation, making my visits to Mykonos unforgettable.

On August 16th, my plus one, Mimi, and I boarded the Explora I in Athens. This was a very big moment as we were both embarking on our very first cruise. First, the fact that I got to bring a plus one was incredible. FAM trips (familiarization trips), are usually reserved for travel agents as a way of getting to know a new destination or product. The perk of having a friend accompany me on this journey was already winning me over. Explora I was born a little over a year ago in August of 2023 and within a year achieved the accolade of best new cruise ship in 2023. The idea behind Explora was to build a fleet of ships that feel more like a luxury cosmopolitan hotel at sea with the atmosphere of a yacht. This different approach makes Explora unique and refined. Two qualities I look for in hotels, so to have this onboard a cruise was a pleasant surprise.

The Greek islands have captured our fascination for centuries and it's no wonder, they're as diverse as they are beautiful and open a new world at every port. For a once-in-a-lifetime itinerary, the Cyclades offer both famed destinations (Mykonos, and Santorini) and lesser-known gems. And while you could spend days (or weeks) at each of these isles, you can get a good taste with a well-planned 7- to 10-day itinerary.

Katikies Mykonos was such a beautiful place to celebrate 10 years of marriage. The stunning views and chic rooms were accented by the delicious food and attentive staff. If someone told you Mykonos was all clubs and EDM, they have not been to this idyllic side of the island. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for beautiful serenity while only being a few minutes to the center of town.

Mykonos might be one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Not only are there stunning views around every corner, but there are also some of the top places in the world to relax, unwind, dine and dance the night (or day) away. Whether you're looking for the most Instagram-worthy backdrop, world class food and cocktails or the best vibes for a day/night out, I've got you covered.

Myconian Avaton Resort is perfectly blended into the rock above Elia Beach and is the perfect setting outside of the hustle and bustle of the city. Complimentary transportation to/from Mykonos is one of the perks of this amazing resort! It is stylishly designed with the most amazing pool and views. A short ferry ride away is the amazing Santo Pure Oia Suites and Villas in Santorini. It is also perfectly blended in with the rock with the most amazing views of the sea. It is a short walk to Oia, where you can see the most beautiful sunset in the world!

In terms of tourism, Santorini and Mykonos are the crown jewels of Greece. Understandably so! Both islands are breathtaking and offer totally different experiences to the traveler. But popularity can be a double edged sword and both islands can get expensive and crowded. Luckily, in the Cyclades, you can have your cake and eat it too, with some simple island hopping. Get your taste of Santorini and Mykonos, and then spend some time with one of their less touristy, but equally amazing, neighbors. (All of these islands are accessible via ferry from Santorini, Mykonos or both!)
