Let's be honest, you could spend a month in Italy and still be left with so much to explore. In this 14-day itinerary, you are going to mostly traverse the northern region with two exceptions: Rome and Sardinia. I originally wrote this itinerary as a honeymoon proposal, so you can bet it is heavy on the romance. What's really amazing is that each area you visit has a vastly different culture than the next. You are truly going to get a little taste of these unique Italian delights. Just be prepared. You will want to come back for more!

I studied abroad in Rome and made a few trips north to Lombardy – I immediately fell in love with the culture and scenery of the region! Como town itself is so underrated; I wouldn't skip a night or two in this romantic little city on your way up to a longer stay on the lake. MXP is also such an easy airport, and it's relatively seamless to get to Milan pre-or-post-Como for a wonderful few days exploring both the historical and modern sides of Italy.

I fell in love with Lake Como the minute I stepped off the train from Milan. It's impossible not to be smitten by the classic charm and elegance that Lake Como embodies. Located in Northern Italy's Lombardy region, Lake Como boasts some of the world's most beautiful 5-star hotels. Travelers from all over the world flock here to enjoy "La Dolce Vita" with sunny days spent on the lake, lounging by waterfront pools, enjoying the art of aperitivo, visiting magnificent villas and enjoying exceptional dining experiences. In fact, I love Lake Como so much, my husband and I got married there at Villa Balbianello.

I have traveled all over Italy, and Lake Como is one of my very favorite destinations that I will definitely be going back to. The views at every moment are incredible and it has such a relaxing, yet luxurious ambience.

I've recently come back from Lake Como and wanted to provide some feedback, insight and tips to some of my favorite hotels I checked out.

The Grand Hotel Victoria Concept and Spa is a new five-star plus luxury hotel in the small town of Menaggio, centrally located on Lake Como. It features the Erre Spa, a 1200 sq/m underground spa including treatment rooms, a 20 m indoor swimming pool, a steam bath, Finnish or infrared saunas and spacious relaxation areas. We stayed in the new part of the hotel with beautiful mountain views and the large pool area. The restaurant is innovative and the service impeccable. It was a great base to explore the lake with ferry service nearby.
