Dublin

Dublin will always hold a very special place in my heart as it’s where I met my now husband almost 11 years ago. Teeming with history, lively culture and a bit of mischief, Dublin is the perfect place to start your Irish adventure. It's an incredibly walkable city; however, it's also easy to flag a taxi or take public transport. I recommend spending at least three days in Dublin to soak up all it has to offer.

Dublin, the vibrant capital city of Ireland, is a perfect destination for a memorable weekend getaway. With its rich history, thriving cultural scene and hidden gems waiting to be discovered, Dublin has something to offer for everyone. Whether you have 48-hours or a full three days to explore (though you may find yourself pining for more time), this itinerary will guide you through some of the best experiences Dublin has to offer.

With family ties and many adventures, Ireland is quite dear to me. Its spectacular nature and incredible history make it a memorable holiday away on Emerald Isle. From castles to pints and pubs, Ireland has something for just about everyone, and it makes for a great road trip across its diverse cities, towns and islands. 

Christmas is full of festivities in Dublin Ireland. Though the weather can be a little rainy, the lovely Irish people will greet you with sunny smiles and holiday joy. If you’re into warm friendly cozy pubs and listening to surprise world-class musicians busking for great causes, great Irish cheese, whiskey, Guinness, the freshest food and welcoming people, then Dublin is the place for you!

My mom's parents were born in Ireland. For me, like many others, going back is a chance to retrace your family history and reconnect with family abroad. No relations? No matter. The Irish reputation for being welcoming holds true. And while I didn't find any leprechauns or gold at the end of a rainbow, there is a mystical beauty to the endless green fields, rivers and rugged coastlines.

Settled by the Vikings, Ireland’s capital city offers a variety of ways to explore the history and culture of Ireland. The historic fabric is woven into a vibrant, modern city.  Visit cathedrals built on legendary ground, the oldest pub or university in Ireland, listen to the captivating rhythms of a trad session or Riverdance performance, or watch hurling matches – a sport that dates back 3,000 years. Learn about Ireland’s struggle for independence, world-renowned poets and writers and the lesser known, (but captivating, or maybe personal) stories of Irish emigrants who scatter the world.

In February 2024, I did a site inspection while staying at the whimsical Wilder Townhouse in Dublin’s city center. This boutique property is nestled just a few blocks south of St. Stephen’s Green making it the perfect base for exploring the vibrant city of Dublin.

Dublin holds a special place in my heart for its rich culture, friendly locals, vibrant live music scene and incredible history. The warmth and welcoming nature of Dubliners makes you feel like you're among friends from the moment you arrive. Whether you're sipping a pint in a traditional pub, chatting with a local at a market, or enjoying a lively music session, you're bound to strike up a meaningful conversation.

In Dublin, you don't just visit; you become a part of the city's living tapestry of culture, history, and camaraderie.

Christmas is the most magical time of the year. Spending New Year’s Eve in a new place is a great way to start the next 12 months' cycle in a mood of adventure and discovery.

In the past 10 years, I have been celebrating December 31st at many different places, and this year will not be different. It’s my way of saying, "Hey, Universe, I want more happiness, adventure opportunities, and great encounters! And I’m ready to work for it!" (i.e. make the effort to take myself somewhere new and out of my comfort zone)
