A Design Lover's Guide to Jaipur

Curated by
Jolene Bojan
It had always been such a dream of mine to visit India. When my (now) husband and I began planning our elopement, I knew it would make the most special and inspiring destination for our big day (and the trip of a lifetime)! As someone who is curious and creative, I love traveling to countries with a rich culture, impressive architecture and plenty of crafts — none of which there is a shortage of in Jaipur. My penchant for finding unique, design-forward stays and experiences led me to a variety of gorgeous properties that I had the pleasure of seeing during our time there. I now curate unique itineraries to India with places like these woven in along the way. Below are some of my favorite finds in the bustling city for those with great taste!

Villa Palladio Jaipur: A Dreamlike Retreat in the Aravali Hills

This past year I had the honor of staying (& getting married) at the incredible crimson and cream palace that is Villa Palladio. As a lover of maximalist interior design, I greatly admire Marie-Anne Oujedans, whose imagination is unlike anyone else. Together with Barbara Miolini, the duo have brought to life four stunning properties in Jaipur: Café Palladio, Bar Palladio, Polo Palladio and Villa Palladio. All exude a harmonious blend of Italian elegance and Indian opulence. I kept a close watch on the property as it was being finished. When my husband and I decided to elope, I knew it would be the most incredible place to do just that! We were lucky enough to have the country estate to ourselves for two full days there to take it all in. Here is a bit about this special place and our unforgettable stay.

Jaipur is a feast for the senses. Burn-your-face-off spicy food. Non-stop honking. A symphonic smell of smoke and curries fill the air. Trying to cross the street? Better hurry because tuktuks and motor bikes do not stop for pedestrians. But don't let the chaos of Jaipur deter you – The Pink City of India is an epicenter of arts, culture and heritage that will leave you wondering why it took you so long to visit.

Jaipur is called the Pink City due to the color of its buildings in the main part of the city. This vibrant city is considered a UNESCO World Heritage site on its own, but also contains two separate UNESCO sites: Amer Fort and Jantar Mantar. Jaipur is also close to several wildlife preserves and is one of the three cities that make up the Golden Triangle of India.

My month-long exploration of India in September 2023 allowed me to dive deep into the rich tapestry of the country's historical landmarks and savor its world-renowned cuisine and diverse cultures, while exploring its historical landmarks, too. This firsthand experience has equipped me with invaluable insights and a deep understanding of the country's top attractions, ensuring that I can curate a list of the best places to see and activities to engage in, enabling travelers to make the most of their time in this captivating and multifaceted nation.

While in Rajasthan, India for the holidays, I spent Christmas at Villa Palladio Jaipur, a boutique hotel that perfectly encapsulates the colorful wonder and rich cultural heritage throughout Rajasthan. While this is unlike many luxury hotels in India, its picture-perfect design and thoughtful staff make Villa Palladio one of my favorite hotels for a unique and special experience in India.
