With family ties and many adventures, Ireland is quite dear to me. Its spectacular nature and incredible history make it a memorable holiday away on Emerald Isle. From castles to pints and pubs, Ireland has something for just about everyone, and it makes for a great road trip across its diverse cities, towns and islands. 

My mom's parents were born in Ireland. For me, like many others, going back is a chance to retrace your family history and reconnect with family abroad. No relations? No matter. The Irish reputation for being welcoming holds true. And while I didn't find any leprechauns or gold at the end of a rainbow, there is a mystical beauty to the endless green fields, rivers and rugged coastlines.

In February 2024, I did a site inspection while staying at the whimsical Wilder Townhouse in Dublin’s city center. This boutique property is nestled just a few blocks south of St. Stephen’s Green making it the perfect base for exploring the vibrant city of Dublin.

Christmas is full of festivities in Dublin Ireland. Though the weather can be a little rainy, the lovely Irish people will greet you with sunny smiles and holiday joy. If you’re into warm friendly cozy pubs and listening to surprise world-class musicians busking for great causes, great Irish cheese, whiskey, Guinness, the freshest food and welcoming people, then Dublin is the place for you!

I spent two unforgettable months living in Dublin during a college internship. During that time, I fell in love with the city's charm, its unique blend of history and modernity and its friendly, welcoming atmosphere. When I brought my husband back for a road trip around Ireland in June 2024, I was thrilled to share with him the vibrant culture and the walkable streets that make Dublin feel less like a bustling European city, and more like home.

Dublin is a city that truly has something for everyone. I recommend spending anywhere from 2-3 days here to fully experience its rich history, vibrant culture and friendly atmosphere. It’s a great base for day trips if you don’t have time to explore other parts of the island. Dublin is usually where people fly in and out of, so it makes sense to either start or end your trip in this special city. While Dublin itself offers plenty to see and do, I highly recommend venturing beyond the city limits to explore the diverse and breathtaking beauty of Ireland.

Dublin, and Ireland in general, are brimming with fantastic sites to see and experience. Steeped with history and breathtaking scenery, you'll want to make the most of your visit. While some may feel most comfortable booking tours and going with the flow, we chose to make the most of an independent, five-day itinerary. Booking European travel well in advance can maximize your ability to see everything you'd hope, but we learned booking only 12 days in advance made for an equally memorable adventure.
