Copenhagen, Denmark, is a contemporary city with a refreshing atmosphere and an incredible culinary scene. In fact, it is also home to the best restaurant in the world: Noma. But, aside from the food, the architecture, the city’s famed canals with their floating hot tubs and design are true reasons to visit this Northern European city. With an array of art museums, design-forward spaces and sensory experiences, it is an example of a truly modern city with a pioneering spirit. And don’t forget to eat, because that’s why you came here, after all!

Copenhagen is consistently ranked as one of the worlds "happiest cities" and for good reason. The Danish capital is known for its bikeable streets, beautiful parks and amazing food scene. While you may have to endure a few months of intense winter weather, it is well worth it for the stunning summer months. Seeing that Denmark is surrounded by water, it is easy to access the sea wherever you go. Take a dip all year round if you wish to truly embrace Danish culture!

Copenhagen is one of those places that I seem to just keep going back to. Part of that might have to do with me living in Berlin, a short 45-minute flight away. But I think the pull Copenhagen has on me has more to do with it being the perfect balance between novel and familiar. Now, although I am unable to drink coffee myself, given my tragically low caffeine tolerance, I have a husband who is a coffee addict...I mean aficionado! Our family's travel plans were to return to Europe this summer, but we wanted to explore a city that was new to us and had plans to focus on Northern European cities. We love to visit cities that are walkable, have places that are interesting to teenagers, have a great food scene and allow us to be active and outside as much as possible. Copenhagen checked all those boxes and offered a fews surprises along the way. I was completely blown away by our recent visit to Copenhagen this summer. I traveled with my family, which includes my 18-year-old daughter (have you ever traveled with teens?), and I cannot say enough amazing things about this city. First of all, it is beautiful, full of history, art, water, food, coffee and people with the coolest style I've seen in years. Copenhagen is best experienced by bike or by foot. There are bike lanes everywhere, and everyone is on a bike. It has gorgeous parks, canals you can swim in, art, design, vintage clothing shopping, castles, outdoor food truck parks, and did I mention food?
