The sun-kissed island of Crete is a paradise for those of us who love hiking, history and great food. Even a week's visit gives ample time to explore the famous Venetian waterfront of Chania, visit the ancient ruins at Knossos and Phaistos, hike one of Crete's spectacular gorges and enjoy traditional, hearty cuisine with a view of the sea or mountains (or both!)

In July of 2023, I did a site inspection while staying at the beautifully minimal and rustic, Milia Mountain Retreat & Restaurant, hidden away in Crete’s West Coast mountain tops. The passionate and friendly staff welcomed us into their traditionally built eco-lodge, which is an ode to agrotourism. However, their restaurant is Crete’s best kept secret and the food tastes like nothing less than 5 stars. I highly recommend it to clients who wish to have a break from the typical island’s busy resorts and who consider themselves, a foodie!

Consider Greece as your Mediterranean destination for September! My favorite time to travel to Europe, in general, is September. Kids are back in school, making September the best time for couples, solo travelers or groups of friends to vacation. The weather during this time is delightful, with warm temperatures perfect for exploring historical landmarks and dipping in the stunning blue sea.
