Cape Town

South Africa is one of my favorite places to visit - it truly has it all. You can explore the city for a few days, hike, head to the beach, explore wine country, and then end your trip on a relaxing, yet epic, safari. It's a beautiful and friendly country that makes for an ideal honeymoon or couples trip for any foodie or adventurer.

We are headed to South Africa in December and I just finished booking everything for it, so I thought it might be helpful to show you exactly what I planned out. This is our first time in South Africa, and I have gathered a ton of information from friends who have either been many times or have lived there to put together the perfect itinerary for food and wine lovers like us.

We start off in Cape Town for two nights, and then rent a car and head over to the beautiful seaside town of Hermanus for some nature and relaxation for two nights. We finish it off with three nights in the wine country, between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek to experience the best food and wine South Africa has to offer.

Although this guide does not include a safari, some or all of it could be built around one if that is the primary reason you are going to South Africa.

A two-week getaway to South Africa and Mozambique is perfect for a honeymoon and/or bucket-list wildlife adventure. It features a little bit of everything, from city exploration in Cape Town to wine tours, safari game rides and relaxation on the pristine, white-sand beaches of Mozambique. It doesn’t get much better than this!

In town for both the 2024 "We Are Africa" conference and a post-event Fora FAM, I spent a dreamy week at "The Nellie." The grand dame of Cape Town delivered in both service and style, and I would highly recommend without hesitation.

Cape Town is an incredible destination for culture, dining and adventure. Whether you are planning a romantic getaway or a family vacation, Cape Town offers it all. The waterfront area has beautiful views, walkable areas, fun shopping and both fine dining as well as lively cafes. The plethora of hotels allows one to stay right near the waterfront, at a beach resort or tucked away up from the chaos but under a 5-minute drive to the touristy areas. Once you have your fill of the downtown area, you can easily transfer to the wine country for more breathtaking views, culinary delights and artisan shops. If you fancy wildlife and easy adventure, head to Grootbos Private Nature Reserve for whales, sharks, hiking and of course, more culinary masterpieces. Cape Town is an amazing destination to visit at all times of the year. Not only is it the perfect stop-over spot before a beautiful Safari in Kruger National Park, but also its a destination in itself. There are beautiful beaches, hiking opportunities, great restaurants, history and so much more. Cape Town offers a captivating experience with its diverse offerings, from scenic landscapes and delicious cuisine to cultural exploration. Embrace the warmth of this city and create unforgettable memories during your visit.

Cape Town is a beautiful destination, full of history and beauty. It sits at the base of Table Mountain, and boasts gorgeous mountain vistas and ocean views. It also offers award winning food and wine, as well as wildlife and culture. There is so much to experience here. I recommend at least four days to explore Cape Town, but spend more time if you can. It's a great jumping off point for many east Africa safari camps.

South Africa's mother city is one of the most compelling destinations with its incredible beaches, rich culture, gorgeous wineries and exciting safari experiences. It is also a bustling contemporary metropolis which can be best seen through the growing restaurant and bar scene, hospitality and the many digital nomads who choose to live here. Cape Town offers just that: a beautiful balance between work and pleasure in an incredible setting at the edge of the world.

A venture out into South Africa requires quite a bit of preparation and organization, as simply the trip there takes two to three days. Your first stopover is at Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, where you will spend the night before flying to the camp by Tanda Tula and beginning your safari adventure. South Africa is out to surprise you with its rich biodiversity, incredible fauna and flora, welcoming people and design-forward spaces.
