Crabs and Cocktails: A Weekend Guide to Baltimore

Curated by
Marlene O’Brien
A well-guarded secret to those in the know, Baltimore’s charm, history and endless waterfront attractions make it one of the most attractive weekend getaway destinations. Whether you want to walk the cobblestone streets of Fells Point, sip on cocktails while watching the sunset over the harbor, or pull up your sleeves and pick a dozen crabs covered in Old Bay, the city truly has something for everyone. In fact, “Charm City” has undergone such extensive refurbishment in the past 20 years that most natives don’t recognize some parts of it anymore. It has made it the perfect place to dive into for a couple of days of exploration.

Baltimore City offers a vibrant taste of blended cultures, making it a must-visit for tourists. Indulge in the city’s rich culinary scene at places like Terra Café and The Land of Kush, where you can enjoy soul food favorites like jerk chicken and vegan dishes. The music scene is equally dynamic, with roots in jazz legends like Billie Holiday and lively events like the AFRAM festival, celebrating R&B, hip-hop and gospel. Explore historic neighborhoods such as Upton and Pennsylvania Avenue, which are steeped in African American history and culture. Baltimore’s unique blend of food, music and cultural heritage creates an unforgettable experience for any visitor.

Combining Work with Play in Baltimore

Curated by
Cindy Sandefur
While attending a conference in Baltimore for work, I chose to stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco rather than the conference-suggested hotels, and what a great decision that turned out to be. The Hotel Monaco was simply stunning and made me feel as if I had stepped back into a time when all that glittered was indeed gold. There was marble as far as the eye could see as well as exquisite chandeliers, crown molding, furniture and accessories that gave the facility a feeling of luxury and prestige. Beyond the beauty of the hotel, the service was amazing. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to my clients.
