Whitewashed church bell tower and domed rooftops overlooking Santorini’s cliffside village and the deep blue Aegean Sea under a clear sky.

Santorini needs no introduction. The caldera cliffs, the sugar-cube villages of Oia, the blue domes against a cobalt sky—it’s one of the most photographed islands in the world for a reason.

Beyond the postcard views, the island reveals real variety: vineyard-dotted hillsides, sea-facing stays with room to breathe, and design-forward retreats just beyond the village centers. And while the island has a reputation for sky-high rates, there are exceptional hotels that deliver style, views, and thoughtful amenities without crossing into ultra-luxury territory.

Here are our favorite Santorini hotels under $500 a night, with rates varying by season.

Santo Pure Oia Suites & Villas

A bright, minimalist bedroom with whitewashed walls and woven headboard opens onto a private terrace with a plunge pool and sweeping sea views, framed by open French doors and soft linen curtains.

Set on the hillside just above Oia, Santo Pure feels more like a low-slung Cycladic retreat than a cliff-hugging boutique hotel. The layout unfolds horizontally in a series of whitewashed suites and stone pathways, creating a sense of space that’s rare this close to the village. The location is key: a five-minute walk to the restaurants and sunset viewpoints, yet far enough to feel peaceful once you’re back by the pools.

Every accommodation is a suite (with two larger villas), and each includes either a private pool or Jacuzzi, plus generous terraces oriented toward sea and sky. Six outdoor pools ripple across the property, reinforcing its resort-like scale, while the adults-only policy keeps the atmosphere serene. The spa adds a heated indoor pool and hammam, and Alios Ilios serves Mediterranean dishes on a terrace made for long, golden-hour dinners.

NOŪS Santorini

An open-air poolside bar with a curved terrazzo counter and woven red bar stools sits beneath a dramatic thatched canopy, surrounded by low lounge seating and sunlit whitewashed buildings in the background.

Located in the charming village of Mesaria, just 10 minutes from Fira, Noūs Santorini makes its mark through architecture. A collection of angular, minimalist bungalows unfolds around a dramatic 50-meter L-shaped infinity pool—the largest on the island—creating a village-like layout defined by clean geometry and volcanic tones. Whitewashed walls and sculptural gardens trace the natural slope of the land, resulting in a design that feels contemporary yet unmistakably rooted in Santorini’s heritage.

All 119 rooms and suites are generously proportioned, many with private pools tucked into landscaped courtyards. The spa is an architectural highlight in its own right, with an indoor–outdoor pool, hammam, sauna, and treatments inspired by the Greek concept of Ef Zin (wellbeing). It’s family-friendly, but best suited to design-loving adults and families with older children who appreciate space, calm, and a slower pace.

  • Fora Perks include a $100-200 food and beverage credit, daily breakfast, complimentary roundtrip private airport transfers, and an upgrade and extended check-in/out whenever possible.

Katikies Garden Santorini

A row of cushioned wooden loungers with green pillows lines an infinity pool overlooking the sea, with whitewashed terraces and a distant cliffside village under a clear blue sky.

Set in Fira’s old Venetian quarter, transforms an 18th-century monastery into one of Santorini’s most atmospheric stays. Whitewashed archways open onto a leafy central courtyard, home to Selene Restaurant, while a medieval cave wine cellar below speaks to the island’s long viticultural history. Although there is a strong sense of heritage, the mood is thoroughly contemporary.

The 40 suites retain the monastery’s soaring ceilings and arched passageways, now paired with dark wood floors, crisp white walls, and deep emerald accents. All open onto private verandas, with many adding plunge pools or open-air Jacuzzis. Above it all, a rooftop pool looks across the caldera, village rooftops, and the Aegean beyond. The spa is intimate and treatment-focused, and curated wine tastings spotlight Santorini’s distinctive volcanic varietals. It’s central, design-forward, and steeped in story—ideal for travelers who want to stay in the heart of Fira without sacrificing calm.

  • Fora Perks include a $150 hotel credit, daily breakfast, Selene Rose signature wine & fruit upon arrival, and an upgrade and extended check-in/out whenever possible. For stays of 5+ nights, a complimentary massage for two, and for 7+ nights, a complimentary dinner.

Vedema, a Luxury Collection Resort

In the traditional village of Megalochori, Vedema trades cliffside bustle for vineyard views and a slower island rhythm. Built around a 15th-century winery, the resort unfolds like a whitewashed village—stone paths, hidden courtyards, and centuries-old canava wine cellars woven into the architecture.

Rooms, suites, and villas are spacious, each opening onto a private terrace, with classic Cycladic styling—crisp white walls, arched ceilings, and generous living areas. Some villas add private pools for extra seclusion. At the heart of the property, a raised pool terrace overlooks tiled rooftops and vines, while Alati restaurant occupies a dramatically restored wine cave. Wine is central to the experience here, with tastings held in the original cellar. A compact spa, multiple dining options, and a village setting steps from local tavernas make Vedema a strong choice for travelers who want five-star comforts without the cliffside crowds.

Magma Resort Santorini, in the Unbound Collection by Hyatt

Built from black volcanic stone and set among vineyards near Vourvoulos, the resort embraces Santorini’s raw side with expansive terrain and broad sea views. Low-slung and geometric, the architecture stretches outward rather than upward, giving the property a sense of openness that’s rare here. That space carries through to the 59 generously sized rooms and suites, all with private outdoor areas and many with plunge pools or hot tubs.

A sweeping infinity pool—one of the largest in Santorini—anchors the property, while Magma Soul, curated by a two-Michelin-star chef, elevates the dining scene with refined Greek cuisine. An underground spa, thermal facilities, and a beach club reached via short shuttle add depth to the experience. Unlike many design-forward Santorini stays, Magma is family-friendly, with spacious suite configurations that comfortably accommodate more than two, without sacrificing privacy.

  • Fora’s Hyatt Privé partner perks include a $100 hotel credit, a welcome amenity, daily breakfast, and an upgrade and extended check-in/out whenever possible.

Splurge pick: Canaves Epitome

Private cliffside terrace with infinity pool, stone walls and shaded lounge area overlooking the sea and rugged coastline under clear blue skies.

If your budget can stretch, Canaves Oia Epitome offers a completely different vantage point on Santorini. While most luxury hotels in Oia turn toward the caldera, Epitome faces west—toward Thirasia and the open Aegean—delivering uninterrupted sea and sunset views from every suite and villa.

Less than a mile from Oia above Ammoudi Bay, the setting feels expansive and private, with generous grounds, two infinity pools, and gardens threaded with rosemary, thyme, lavender, and centuries-old olive trees. The 24 suites and villas are exceptionally spacious (starting at 45 sqm), each with a private plunge pool and terrace oriented to the horizon. Multi-bedroom villas comfortably accommodate families, and children aged six and over are welcome; instead of a traditional kids’ club, curated activities such as cooking classes and treasure hunts keep younger guests engaged.

Dining is a highlight. Omnia serves relaxed Mediterranean fare by the pool, while Elements—often cited among the island’s finest restaurants—pairs refined Greek-led cuisine with some of the best sunset views in Santorini
