Fora’s Take

In Key you can relax on the beach, enjoy a lovely meal while seeing chickens roaming the streets, as well as some iguanas. There is always so much to do, and you can walk or ride a bike pretty much anywhere. It is a lovely destination to make memories in!

Things to do in Key West

White-light-house-on-hill-key-west-travel-guide
  • Hemingway House: Such a treasure. You can see this throughout his home, including his office/writing space. You will likely see many cats throughout the property, also. Home of the six toed cats.

  • Lazy Dog Adventures: Kayaking is so much fun here. You can do guided trips or on your own. Afterward, stop by Hurricane Hole, sit on their porch by the marina and order some much-needed food and margaritas after your adventure.

  • Key West Lighthouse: Go for a tour or enjoy their “Sunset Experience” where you get a 90-minute exclusive access to the property, museum and tower during sunset. It includes a bottle of wine or prosecco, artisanal meats, cheeses and sweets.

  • Beach: Either Smathers beach or Fort Zachary Taylor. Smathers is wonderful with its white sand. Ride your bikes on Fort Zachary, rent chairs and enjoy the sun. They also have a food shack and bathrooms.

Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square:

  • Duval Street: Go for a walk, check out all the shops, restaurants, bars and art. TIP: be on the lookout for locals who make and sell (cheaply!) handmade hats and bowls made from palm leaves.

  • Audubon House and Tropical Gardens: So beautiful to see and experience, snorkeling, fishing, sunset cruises and more water fun!

  • Food tour: We recommend Key West Southernmost Food and Cultural Walking Tour. Small group tour that showcases local mom and pop eateries and other gems throughout Key West.

Places to eat & drink in Key West

  • Moondog Cafe: Make this your first and last stop. The menu changes now and then and is always phenomenal. Get multiple Strawberry Fields Sangria throughout your trip, Drink some while you are there but also order it to go, put it in your bike’s cup holder, and off you go on more adventures.

  • Glazed Donuts: Fresh, delicious donuts. Need we say more?

  • Blue Heaven: Total Key West vibes. Breakfast, lunch or dinner.

  • Santiago’s Bodega: Sit on their porch area, and eat among the chickens. Their meat and cheese board and wine is a perfect dinner.

  • Latitudes: Upscale yet still semi-casual, with beautiful ocean views. We always recommend outdoor seating.

  • Banana Cafe: Perfect spot for breakfast or. brunch. Mimosa, coffee, delicious food and wonderful service. Again, sit outside if you can.

  • Cafe Marquesa: Cozy with amazing seafood!

  • Little Pearl: Fresh, local seafood in a comfortable and warm setting.

  • Whatever you do, you must get some Key Lime Pie!
