Things to do in Alaska

Anchorage Museum: A thoughtful introduction to Alaska, showcasing Indigenous art, Arctic culture, climate science, and the state’s layered history in one beautifully curated space.
Alyeska Resort Scenic Tram & Nordic Spa: Ride the aerial tram for panoramic Chugach Mountain views, explore alpine trails, and unwind in the Nordic Spa for a restorative end to your adventure.
Naturalist-guided exploration in Denali National Park: Expert-led hikes and interpretive walks deepen your understanding of Denali’s wildlife, tundra ecology, and rich cultural history.
Alaska Railroad journey: Travel between Anchorage, Denali, and Seward in glass-domed railcars, enjoying uninterrupted views of mountains, rivers, and roaming wildlife. My favorite way to travel through Alaska!
Kayaking and paddleboarding: Paddle through glacial lakes or coastal inlets for a peaceful, immersive perspective of Alaska’s wildlife and dramatic landscapes.
Helicopter flightseeing over Denali: Soar above North America’s tallest peak and vast icefields, with the option to land directly on a glacier for an unforgettable alpine experience.
Glacier cruise to Portage Glacier: Cruise across Portage Lake to witness towering blue ice walls up close, with the chance to see dramatic glacier calving in real time.
Places to eat & drink in Alaska

Moose’s Tooth Pub & Pizzeria: A lively local institution known for inventive pizzas and house-brewed beers (and yes, it absolutely lives up to the hype).
Snow City Café: Go-to breakfast spot serving hearty plates, excellent coffee, and classic Alaskan comfort food with a modern twist.
Simon & Seafort’s Saloon & Grill: Longtime favorite for fresh Alaskan seafood paired with panoramic Cook Inlet views.
49th State Brewing Co.: Craft beer, elevated pub fare, and mountain views make this a relaxed but quintessentially Alaskan dining stop.
Spinach Bread: A tiny bakery with a cult following, famous for its legendary spinach bread and pastries that sell out early, located in Talkeetna.
Seven Glaciers: An elevated fine-dining experience atop Mt. Alyeska featuring a six-course tasting menu that highlights local seafood, wild game, and seasonal Alaskan ingredients.
Need to know
Book early: Alaska’s travel season is short, and accommodation fills quickly, especially in Denali National Park where options are limited.
Budget accordingly: Alaska is one of the more expensive U.S. destinations, so plan for higher costs across lodging, excursions, and transport.
Plan for distance: Alaska is vast, and what looks close on a map can easily require half a day of travel, so realistic pacing is essential.
Choose transport wisely: The most seamless (and scenic) way to travel between Anchorage and Denali is via the Alaska Railroad with panoramic dome cars, while car rentals offer flexibility but involve long drives and limited services between towns.
