Dubrovnik and Hvar are often the hot-spots in Croatia, but you can’t forget about Plitvice Lakes and Split. Because of how far west Portugal is in Europe, it makes a nice “shorter” trip from the US. For example, while everyone’s traveling to the Caribbean or Mexico for Spring break, you could consider Portugal! Genealogy travel is a worthwhile type of travel. We had the opportunity to make part of our Italy honeymoon a genealogy trip for my husband’s family. Croatia is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. It is starting to become more touristy, so I encourage people to travel there now. Along the Dalmatian Coast in southern Croatia you will find un-matched natural beauty, phenomenal Mediterranean views, delicious food, ancient history and amazing people. Croatia is a large country. And the northern, more inland part is quite different than the South. The Dalmatian Coast in Croatia is what most people probably think of when they think of Croatia.

My husband and I traveled through Portugal in April. We stopped in the Douro Valley where treating ourselves to a bit of luxury and solitude was a priority. Every expectation we had was exceeded at Quinta de São Bernardo, which is about a three-hour train ride east of Porto. We spent two nights in boutique luxury at a family run 'quinta' (small farmhouse-style hotel, where much of the food and wine is grown and produced on the property) and could not recommend it enough. This is the number one property that I will recommend for clients traveling in that area.

Portugal is the perfect destination for wine, food, romance and Fado. To date, it's one of my husband and I's favorite destinations. The small European country has all the great qualities of Mediterranean Europe: delicious food and wine, warm climate, gorgeous landscapes, hospitable people and stone and terracotta architecture. But there's so much that makes Portugal unique, such as its unique past, multicultural influences and of course -- Fado music. All these reasons make it a wonderful honeymoon destination.

Northern Italy is a great destination for food, wine, culture, nature escapes, beautiful landscapes, history, romance and so much more! It's quite popular, and for good reason! Italy is iconic, and Northern Italy especially. The region caters to everyone's desires and is also situated in a great spot if you're ever interested in traveling to a neighboring country or two (think Switzerland, France, Slovenia or Croatia).

Croatia is an under-rated destination. Yes, it's becoming more popular, but I promise it's still not as popular as it deserves. Croatia will be the place that surprises you. It's that unexpected destination you will rave to your friends and family about. If you're looking for a romantic getaway (perhaps a honeymoon?), this is the perfect destination! Have you dreamt of sea-view balconies, UNESCO World Heritage sites, uninterrupted drives along the coast or sipping local wines in a fascinating destination with your new spouse? Then look no further. Croatia is IT!
