Property Spotlight: Chablé Maroma
Curator’s statement

Hidden down a quiet dirt road and cradled by jungle and sea, Chablé Maroma rests along the shores of Punta Maroma in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. This serene retreat—honored with a Michelin Key and named one of 20 Best Resorts in Eastern Mexico by Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards in 2023,—is where wellness, warmth, and understated luxury come together effortlessly. The service is gracious, the cuisine is both nourishing and indulgent, and every corner of the property feels thoughtfully designed for rest and renewal. It’s a place that invites you to exhale and easily earns its place among my top three most treasured stays.

Where to stay

Chablé Maroma was the first five-star resort I truly didn’t want to leave. Whether you’re planning a romantic escape, a family getaway, or a restful weekend with friends, this secluded gem along the Riviera Maya suits a range of travelers without ever feeling too large or too quiet. It’s ideal for an extended weekend where you can fully unplug. Once you turn off the main highway, the experience begins. A winding dirt road leads you through guarded gates—each one subtly reinforcing the sense that you’ve arrived somewhere special and intentionally tucked away.

From the very first moment, the service shines. A warm welcome greets you as you step out of the car, and that attentiveness continues with seamless concierge support, polished dining service, and some of the best beach hospitality I’ve encountered. There’s truly no need to lift a finger.

The grounds are intimate, yet nothing is left to miss. Heated water in both the plunge pool and main pool makes a swim inviting at any time of the day. Your days can be as full or as still as you like: Take a dip, unwind with a locally inspired spa ritual, or sink into a plush lounger along the softest stretch of sand in the region (notably better than the beaches near Playa del Carmen).

The beach team is exceptional, quietly circulating with chilled treats and thoughtful touches that elevate the lounging experience. Don’t miss the hydrotherapy circuit in the spa—it’s complimentary for all guests, and it’s a beautiful way to slow down. While massage options are plentiful, I found the couple’s massage to be less memorable and a bit steep for the experience, especially for those seeking strong value.

Rooms are spacious, thoughtfully chosen, and cocooned in the surrounding jungle for a private, tranquil experience. I highly suggest staying in the Serenity Pool Villa! The villa blends natural textures with beach contemporary design and includes generous closet space, dual toilets, and a stunning double shower with the option to shower outdoors next to surrounding greenery. It’s the kind of place where everything feels just a little more considered—from the beach bag and sandal sizes provided in-room to the way the bedding gently pulls you into rest.

Need to know

  • If you’re planning to dine alfresco at your villa, note that the local wildlife may join you. Raccoons roam the property, and while signs are posted and staff usually remind you, don’t underestimate their boldness.

  • The showers are fully enclosed in glass, offering a sleek, open feel—though it’s something to note if you prefer a bit more privacy.

  • For ideal conditions, consider visiting in February or March. The weather is warm and breezy, and the overall atmosphere feels calm and unhurried—before the spring break rush sets in. It’s a sweet spot for sunshine, serenity, and space to truly relax.
