Aman Nai Lert: Rebranding Luxury in Bangkok
Curator’s statement

Thailand, the land of smiles, is a very special destination for me. Growing up in Malaysia, I was surrounded by Thai friends, and Bangkok has always felt like home rather than just another holiday destination. It would be difficult to fully express my love for Aman hotels—and now that they’ve opened in Bangkok, I’ve never felt more welcomed home every time I visit this city.

The luxury fashion market has been hyping the quiet luxury trend over the past few years, and I can confidently say that I’m glad the luxury hotel industry is taking the same direction as travelers start to appreciate luxury in a different way. More travelers are beginning to value luxury experiences during their holidays. But how do you define luxury in the modern day? I would personally say two words: service and privacy. No grand lobby, no ridiculous long queues waiting to check in or out, and none of that chaotic, mediocre buffet breakfast service in a crowded restaurant. Luxury is all about attention to detail—sleek, elegant design that focuses on quality materials; everyone greeting you by name like you’re at home; staff knowing what you need before you even realize it. This kind of hospitality has been the hallmark of Aman Resorts since they first opened Amanpuri in 1988.

Years ago, Aman was almost like a secret private club that few people knew about, with a cult-like following of jet-setters who traveled based on where Aman was located. Nowadays, it has become a benchmark for luxury hotels and is well known among luxury travelers. But rather than discussing the history of Aman, we’re here to talk about the brand’s latest property.

Sunset at Aman Nai Lert

Aman has just opened the latest addition to its collection, and this time, they’re returning to the country where the very first Aman opened decades ago—yes, you guessed it right, Thailand. Instead of another remote resort, Aman Nai Lert Bangkok is located in the middle of chaotic Bangkok. This property is Aman’s third city hotel, after New York and Tokyo. But don’t get me wrong: Even though it’s situated in the heart of the city, once you enter the hotel, it feels like you’ve been completely transported to another place.

Your experience begins once you land at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, where a staff member holding a sign with your name will escort you to the fast-track immigration lane. Trust me, this is a very thoughtful touch from Aman, as immigration queues at BKK can take up to two to three hours. After collecting your luggage, you’ll be escorted to your BMW 7 Series for the ride to the hotel. Please note that fast-track immigration is not available if you’re arriving via Don Mueang Airport (DMK). A staff member will wait for you outside the baggage claim area. Your limousine comes with a cold towel to refresh yourself, cold drinking water, and some snacks.

Forty-five minutes later, welcome to your sanctuary in Bangkok. As usual, you’ll be greeted by double-gate security and a very discreet stone sign reading Aman Nai Lert Bangkok, blending seamlessly into its surroundings. A warm welcome from the friendly hotel staff follows, and you’ll then be whisked away to the lobby, located on the ninth floor. Believe me when I say the magic happens the moment the elevator doors open.

Welcome amenities

Stepping out of the elevator feels surreal. How does a place this calm exist in the middle of a bustling city? The vibe feels like you’re being welcomed home, rather than entering a typical five-star hotel lobby, which can sometimes feel cold or stiff. This isn’t my first stay, so I can honestly say it truly feels like coming back home. Every single staff member knows your name—very Aman. A welcome ritual is performed while the team checks you in. While waiting, feel free to admire the Chamchuri tree over a reflective pond, which serves as the centerpiece of the hotel—and yes, the Instagram spot.

Check-in usually takes less than five minutes—very seamless. You’re then escorted to another elevator that only gives access to guest suites. You wouldn’t expect another surprise, right? Nope—when the elevator doors open, you’re greeted by yet another lobby. Yes, you read that right. I call it the suites lobby, and it’s truly a work of art. Every two floors feature their own duplex atrium, each with a different design—zen gardens, bamboo ponds, you name it. I was speechless, as it was completely unexpected and definitely something you don’t see at other luxury hotels.

The hotel has only 52 suites in total, starting from 94 square meters (the largest entry-level room in Bangkok) and going all the way up to the 713-square-meter Aman Suite, which occupies the entire 18th floor for absolute privacy. Aman Nai Lert Bangkok offers several suite types, but the Premier Suite has always been my choice for every stay. It overlooks the greenery of Nai Lert Park and offers views of the Park Hyatt’s futuristic architecture—hands-down one of the best skyline views you can ask for in Bangkok. The suite itself is subtle, with earthy-toned furniture and nothing overly extravagant or pretentious. It’s incredibly spacious, featuring a living area with a daybed, a retractable TV, and a large bathroom with a ridiculously oversized bathtub. And of course, everyone’s favorite: a Japanese toilet. Best part? Everything in the minibar is complimentary, including the alcoholic beverages.

Premier Suite

Since the Aman Suite—the presidential suite—was mentioned earlier, I’ll briefly talk about it as well. As mentioned, it occupies the entire floor. I genuinely think I would get lost exploring the suite without a map on my first day. It comes with its own study, private bar, dining area, a living space large enough to host more than 20 people, an entertainment room, a gym, and the showstopper: a spa suite. This isn’t your typical hotel massage room that’s barely larger than a pantry. Imagine a private spa with a couples’ massage suite, a zen pond, a large lounge bed, a sauna, and a steam room—all within the comfort of your own suite. This suite also includes a dedicated in-house host available 24/7 to ensure a flawless stay.

The food here is also thoughtfully curated by the hotel’s talented chefs. You’ll have multiple dining options in case you don’t feel like leaving this haven: Arva, Aman’s Italian restaurant; 1872, which serves seasonal afternoon tea along with Western and Thai cuisine; Sesui for sushi omakase; Hiori as the hotel’s teppanyaki restaurant; and the Aman Lounge—a bar reserved for in-house guests and club members—serving exceptional Japanese-inspired cocktails. There’s also a cigar bar for gentlemen who enjoy cigars and fine whiskies, with an impressive selection that includes rare bottles. Oh, and there’s also a pool bar offering spectacular views of Bangkok.

Aman Lounge

Forget everything you know about wellness city hotels—and I’m not exaggerating. As someone who has tried the spa at almost every luxury hotel in Bangkok, I can confidently say the wellness crown for city hotels goes to Aman Nai Lert. I personally recommend the Aman Advanced Facial and the Banya treatment. I can guarantee you’ll leave the spa feeling like a new person. Words can’t fully describe the experience, but imagine how good it must be if the therapist has to wake me up during every treatment—and I’m not someone who usually falls asleep during massages.

For anyone who has stayed at an Aman resort before, the brand is well known for its complimentary high tea experience every evening. But instead of the free-flowing dessert, Aman Nai Lert Bangkok indulges guests with unique daily workshops. From wellness sessions in the morning to cooking or cocktail-making workshops in the afternoon, there’s always something on offer. Each workshop usually lasts about an hour and is absolutely worth the time. For those interested in the history of Nai Lert Park, there’s also a guided museum tour available daily by appointment. I highly recommend taking this tour—after breakfast is the ideal time, as the weather is cooler and it’s lovely to stroll through the park after a satisfying meal.

Need to know

The hotel is located in the center of the city, making it extremely convenient to reach any area you wish to explore. For shoppers, the property is just a five-minute walk to Central Embassy and Central Chidlom, which house hundreds of international brands, including the famous Dior Gold House.
