3 Stunning Hotels in the Riviera Maya Worth Staying At
Curator’s statement

The Riviera Maya has always been one of those destinations that surprises you—no matter how many times you visit, there is always a new level of magic to discover. As part of the Fora Retreat Latam FAM trip, I had the opportunity to experience three of the most compelling properties in the region back to back, each completely different in vibe and personality. If you are planning a Riviera Maya trip and wondering where to stay, this guide is for you.

Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya

If you’ve ever wanted the Waldorf experience with your toes in the sand, this is it. The architecture is inspired by cenotes and the Caribbean Sea, and the lobby alone will stop you in your tracks. Every single room has an ocean view, the service is deeply personalized, and the vibe is calm and exclusive despite being a full resort. It’s perfect for families and couples alike, and the proximity to the Edition and Mandarin Oriental next door means even more dining options at your fingertips. For couples, skip the Oceanfront King and go straight to the Swim-up Pool room for a far more romantic experience. Non-negotiable order: the red velvet churros.

Conrad Tulum

Tropical, lively, and absolutely beautiful. The Conrad Tulum is the kind of resort where you lose track of time between the pools, the food, and the sunset drinks at Ultramar bar. Dinner at Autor, their signature restaurant, is a must. The spa has a full hydrotherapy circuit and the team goes above and beyond for special occasions. It’s a larger property, so golf carts are how you get around, which can be slow at times. Great for young couples, friend groups, and families with young kids who want an energetic yet beautiful resort experience.

Etereo, Auberge Resorts Collection

This one is in a category of its own. Boutique, bohemian and deeply rooted in Mexican culture and art, Etereo is barefoot luxury at its finest. The terraces are stunning, the complimentary art walk with Hugo is one of those unexpected highlights you’ll still be talking about weeks later, and dinner at Itzam with Chef Carlos Segura is an experience that goes far beyond a meal, it's a full journey through Mexican history and culture told through every dish. With only 75 rooms, it feels genuinely intimate and special. A courtesy photographer is available for guest photoshoots, kayaks and paddleboards are complimentary, and the kids club runs daily with evening movie nights so parents can enjoy a proper dinner out. Etereo also works with a former National Geographic archaeologist who offers exclusive access to archaeological sites and cenotes closed to the public, truly one of a kind.

Stunning architecture at Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection—an intimate retreat of just 75 rooms where every detail honors Mexican culture and design.

Views from my room at Etereo. Jaw-dropping jungle and ocean views that make it nearly impossible to leave your terrace.

Walkways through the jungle connecting every corner of Etéreo.

Need to know

Beyond the hotels, make sure to book experiences and activities to truly make the most of the destination: visiting cenotes, snorkeling, and watching the sunset on a boat are absolute highlights that complete the Riviera Maya experience

The Mexican food is incredible! Embrace it fully at every opportunity, from resort restaurants to local bites

Most importantly: slow down and soak it all in. These properties are designed to be enjoyed, not rushed. Let the atmosphere do its thing.
