Site Visit: Woodstock Inn & Resort
Curator’s statement

A visit to the Woodstock Inn & Resort is like stepping into a postcard. Located in the storybook village of Woodstock, Vermont, it's a place where time slows and charm is everywhere. Cobblestone walkways, arching covered bridges, and sunflower fields—this is quintessential New England. From the moment you arrive, the Woodstock Inn exudes comfort and elegance through its inviting nooks, local handcrafted furniture pieces, and sustainable food and products.

The Woodstock Inn has 142 guest rooms, each thoughtfully adorned in traditional Vermont style. Locally made handcrafted furnishings and sustainable design touches are sprinkled throughout the property. A soft palette of creams, forest greens, and natural wood tones brings the outdoors in and adds to the calm nature of this property.

With 10,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, the inn is ideal for corporate retreats, small conferences, and team-building events. The event staff is seamless, intuitive, and professional—ready to bring your vision to life against a picture-perfect backdrop.

There is a wonderful spa at Woodstock Inn and an athletic club located nearby with indoor pools, group classes, and a full fitness center.

My favorite thing about the hotel is Kelly Way Gardens: Just a shuttle ride away, this three-acre working farm grows heirloom vegetables, edible flowers, and ingredients for the inn’s kitchens and events. In late summer, don’t miss the enchanting Sunflower House, a winding maze of golden blooms.

Dining options include:

  • The Red Rooster: Farm-to-table fine dining with an emphasis on seasonal Vermont flavors

  • Richardson’s Tavern: Cozy and casual, with crackling fireplaces and hearty fare

  • Perkins Pantry: Morning pastries, lattes, and quick snacks in a warm sunlit nook

  • Fairway Grill: Open seasonally near the golf course, ideal for lunch with a view.

While Woodstock could be called a bit sleepy, there are plenty of activities. A few of my favorites include:

  • Billings Farm & Museum: A working dairy farm with baby cows, hayrides, and homemade ice cream.

  • Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park: Vermont’s only national park, with trails, gardens, and sweeping mountaintop views.

  • Downtown Woodstock: Independent bookstores, art galleries, cozy cafes, and one-of-a-kind local shops.

  • Covered bridges and Quechee Gorge: Nicknamed Vermont’s Little Grand Canyon, a scenic must-visit just minutes away.

  • Seasonal recreation: Golf, tennis, fly fishing (with Orvis guides), hiking, and skiing are all close at hand.

Need to know

I specifically love late August/early September here as the Sunflower House has bloomed and the farm is in harvest!
