A destination proposal carries a kind of magic that's hard to replicate—the backdrop of a beautiful destination, the joy of being fully present together, and the sense that the moment exists outside of ordinary life. Whether it involves watching the sun dip below the Santorini caldera, floating above ancient ruins at dawn, or sitting beneath a canopy of desert stars, the right setting doesn't just frame the moment—it becomes part of the story you'll tell for the rest of your lives.
To help inspire you, we're sharing real destination proposals planned by Fora Advisors for clients who trusted them with one of the most important moments imaginable. What makes these stories so remarkable isn't just the stunning locations or the perfectly timed flourishes; it's the layers of thought, coordination, and care that went into making each one feel utterly personal and completely effortless for the couple.
A hot air balloon proposal in Mexico City

"David had been to Mexico City before, but it was Lindsay's first time, and he wanted to plan an experience-driven trip with standout food recommendations, starting with a hot air balloon ride over Teotihuacan. He secretly tasked me with transforming that flight into a surprise proposal. I secured their stay at Casa Goliana, a design-forward boutique hotel in Roma Norte, and orchestrated a flawless moment. As their balloon was being inflated, they stepped inside, where David proposed, captured by a photographer. When they came back out, a “Will You Marry Me?” sign was waiting. The photo shoot continued both before and after takeoff, and once in the air, they celebrated with champagne during the flight." – Syd Wolchok, New York (@suiteescapesbysyd)

"My client dreamed of an elaborate, dramatic, and romantic proposal set against the Santorini sunset. I worked with event planner Proposals in Santorini to design a cinematic, but deeply intimate moment on a secluded caldera terrace. As the golden hour began, a violinist played while he led her down a petal-lined pathway, illuminated by warm candlelight, to a heart-shaped floral installation. The moment she said 'yes,' cold-spark fireworks erupted, followed by a private champagne toast overlooking the sea. The night concluded with a celebratory dinner at Lycabettus Restaurant, perched high above the caldera with the island lights sparkling below." – Alana Stoyas, Leesburg, Va. (@flightoffancy_travel)

"My client wanted an unforgettable, unexpected proposal, something romantic and deeply rooted in the magic of Morocco. I designed a private experience in the Agafay Desert: The evening began with a camel ride at golden hour, ending at a beautifully styled tented camp, filled with lanterns, candles, flowers, and cozy seating. As the sun set, he popped the question, captured discreetly by a photographer. The night flowed into a private traditional Moroccan dinner of tagines and mint tea, followed by a fire dancer performance beneath a sky filled with vibrant stars, before they were whisked back to their five-star hotel, La Sultana in Marrakech, where their suite was beautifully decorated with rose petals and champagne." – Alex Sallis, San Diego (@justbusyalex)

“John came to me to help plan a perfect surprise proposal trip to Lake Louise for Emily, who was finishing medical school. I designed their getaway around the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. The magical moment began with a romantic canoe ride at sunrise. As they strolled along the shore, a ‘friendly tourist’—our secret photographer—captured the moment John dropped to one knee against the stunning mountain backdrop. That evening they celebrated with an upscale dinner, followed by a delivery of champagne and treats the next day. The rest of the trip they spent at the spa, horseback riding, hiking, and celebrating their love together before announcing the engagement to friends and family at home.” – Julie Crotts, Dodge City, Kan.

“Katie had booked a spa weekend for herself and Ian at Nemacolin Resort in Pennsylvania, but behind the scenes, Ian reached out to me to help orchestrate a proposal. I worked closely with the Nemacolin team to coordinate the perfect timing, identify the ideal on-property location, and secure a last-minute photographer, all while ensuring Katie suspected nothing. The magic happened in the intimate Hidden Bleu Room, where Ian surprised Katie with a proposal that even included their fur baby, Luanne. It was a perfect reflection of their story: thoughtful, joyful, and filled with love.” – Shalegh Silkey, Scottsdale, Ariz.
A golden hour proposal on Hawaiʻi's Kohala Coast

“Marvin wanted a deeply personal surprise proposal for Kim in Hawaiʻi, a place tied to her family's story. I worked with the team at The Fairmont Orchid to design a private sunset dinner on the beach, including a professional photographer to discreetly capture the magic. Kim was completely surprised, so the moment had that organic, unguarded quality Marvin was hoping for. They celebrated with champagne and an engagement photo session along the shoreline during golden hour. The experience was such a success that they later asked me to plan their destination wedding and bucket-list Japan honeymoon.” – Jacqueline de Guzman, Brentwood, Calif.
A Naples decoy turns into an Amalfi Coast proposal

“To help my client execute a surprise Italian proposal, we orchestrated a fake ‘city break’ to Naples. The real plan took the couple to the charming village of Conca dei Marini. For the special moment, we arranged a private photographer to pose as a fellow hotel guest who happened upon the couple as they took in the stunning Mediterranean views. Looking out at the sea, my client's girlfriend joked that he should ‘get closer and put your arms around me like you love me,’ completely unaware that he'd already dropped to one knee behind her. Once she realized what was happening, she gave an enthusiastic yes.” – Cara Ruocco, Chicago
A Tuscan proposal with a hidden violinist

“While planning a multi-generational family villa trip in Tuscany, one of my client's sons reached out to me privately. He wanted to propose to his girlfriend of six years during the trip, and he had one non-negotiable: a violinist playing their song, "Lover" by Taylor Swift. Working closely with the villa concierge, I coordinated the full setup—timing, florals, petal styling, a discreet photographer—so the moment felt spontaneous even though every detail was intentional. We even had a full weather backup in place. What made it truly special was how involved he was throughout; his enthusiasm made the whole process a joy. When the first notes rang out and his girlfriend realized what was happening, it was everything he'd hoped for—intimate, cinematic, and entirely theirs. In fact, it went so well that they also asked me to plan their honeymoon to Los Angeles and Hawaii!” – Maria Chapman, Panama City
A breathtaking garden proposal in Ravello

“About two months before their scheduled departure, Hayden came to me looking for support in planning a truly special proposal for his girlfriend, Brooke, during their first trip to Italy together. We decided that after staying at the Hotel de Russie in Rome and Hotel Savoy in Florence, they would wrap up the trip in Ravello, with a stay at Caruso as the grand finale. Their engagement was set for Easter, so I found myself on a bit of a last-minute mission to secure a photographer during one of the busiest times of year. Thankfully, with the help of incredible on-the-ground partners and the Caruso team, we made it happen seamlessly. The proposal took place in the hotel’s breathtaking gardens, where the Caruso team and a photographer discreetly captured the moment on photo and video. Following the proposal, the couple celebrated with an elevated Chef’s Table experience, thoughtfully tailored with curated pairings. Afterward, Brooke’s favorite sunflowers were waiting for them in their room—an incredibly personal touch that perfectly ended such a memorable day.” – Hannah Taylor, San Diego
A Santorini proposal with a favorite song, hidden friends, and the perfect view

“My client pictured a deeply emotional proposal in Santorini, surrounded by loved ones on the iconic caldera. I orchestrated the moment on the Panorama Balcony at Canaves Oia Suites just before sunset. As he led her out, her favorite song, a cover of "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" by Scars on 45, softly began to play. (The song doubled as a subtle cue for the photographer, who deftly captured the surprise and excitement of the moment as well as the reactions of the couple's friends, who emerged from their hiding spots to cheer. From there, the group headed to a curated dinner—a celebration of pure joy against the Aegean twilight.” – Candice Jankowski, Detroit
A sun-soaked proposal on the glittering waters off Positano
“My client knew he wanted the proposal to happen on the Amalfi Coast, but everything else was up in the air. I planned an escape based in Sorrento, so my clients could easily hop to Capri and the coastal towns by ferry. For the big moment, we arranged a day trip to Positano with a traditional gozzo boat waiting at the dock and a photographer posing as first mate. The captain paused in the perfect spot: the sun hitting the cliffs just right, Positano glowing behind them, and one life-changing “yes.” They finished the day at one of my favorite cliffside restaurants Ristorante Adamo Ed Eva with great gluten-free options for the bride-to-be, and a private car to float them back to their hotel.” – Taryn Anderson, Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
