Things to do in Helen, Georgia

Anna Ruby Falls is a stunning double waterfall nestled in the Chattahoochee National Forest.
  • Anna Ruby Falls: This is a steep climb, so wear comfortable hiking boots or shoes. Stroller friendly but wooo what a climb. Once you get to the top, it is worth it. So lovely.

  • Tubing down the Chattahoochee River: One thing you have to do in the south during the warm months (which is like 9-10 months a year) is tubing! Tubing down the Chattahoochee is even better. There are a few tubing companies to choose from, and you can go right through downtown Helen.

  • Ziplining: It's always fun to try ziplining if it’s offered wherever you may be traveling.

  • Downtown Helen: The “heart” of Helen. It is an Alpine/German-inspired town with German restaurants, shopping and more.

  • Georgia Mountain Coaster: An individual cart coaster that you control the speed of, with amazing views!

  • Nora Mill Granary: An operational gristmill where you can go and see how they operate and purchase some freshly ground grits!

  • Seasonal Events: Oktoberfest, Balloon Race & Festival, Christkindlmarkt. The Helen area has some amazing seasonal events! We definitely recommend Oktoberfest, unless you can make it to Germany, of course!

  • Raven Cliff Falls: Another beautiful hike with breathtaking waterfalls.

Places to eat & drink in Helen, Georgia

Yonah Mountain Vineyards' wine tasting
  • Habersham Winery: A family-owned winery. Go for a tasting and enjoy live music on select Saturdays.

  • Yonah Mountain Vineyards: Get the charcuterie, a glass of wine, a flight or a beer. Go sit outside and soak in the beauty. Young American is a local favorite wine of theirs.

  • Creekstone Winery: A chill and cozy sister winery to Habersham. Get a flight and relax outside. Try their wines that have muscadines!

  • Hofer’s Bakery: A bakery and cafe/deli. Highly recommended is the Bavarian Pretzel and a Linzer Cookie! Get some dried spaetzle to take home and make a German meal.

  • Mully’s Nacoochee Grill: Elevated Southern cuisine. Inside a restored farmhouse, with a full bar. Sit on the porch and enjoy!

  • Bodensee: Down home southern meets traditional German dishes.

  • Old Heidelberg: German restaurant and pub. Enjoy traditional eats like schnitzel, while sitting in the beer garden.

  • King Ludwig’s Beer Garden: Pub food like Bratwurst and Reubens with a long drink menu.
