Advisor - Doing the Maldives the Right Way
Curator’s statement

A trip to the Maldives is a luxurious getaway where you can truly feel like you’re away on your own island. And it is exactly that – plus the element of paradise, azure blue waters and overwater bungalows. Most resorts are situated on an island separate from one another in the Maldives, so it’s the epitome of luxury. To top that, the Maldives offer some world-famous underwater life and on-land attractions. Be prepared to indulge!

Things to do around the Maldives

Doing the Maldives the Right Way - Things to do

The wonderful thing about the Maldives is that it is pure vacation in every sense of the word. You are at the mercy of your island to see what activities your accommodations provide. There's eating, drinking, snorkeling, beach, massages, clear-boat canoeing, jet-skiing, sunset/sunrise yoga and so much more.

Visit Male

The Male island has several areas for souvenirs and sites such as a fish market for visitors to check out. The entire island can be explored in a single day before you return to the pure serenity of your resort.

Places to eat & drink around the Maldives

Under sea, aquarium restaurant with all glass and fishes outside.

The dining scene in the Maldives depends almost entirely on your accommodation. Choose wisely! Pre-pandemic this also meant endless buffets and bottomless everything – bottomless brunch anyone? Regardless, today the restaurants are still quite delicious with their organic and fresh options and many, many fruits. Consider getting these delivered to you on a floating serving table in the water.

Some locations offer special breakfast and/or dinner options on the beach to watch the sunrise or sunset. Other options may include picnics or tablescapes at your villa or bungalow.

Dream Restaurant

Ithaa Undersea Restaurant at the Conrad is one of the most picturesque, Instagrammable destinations in the Maldives.

Need to Know

The flight over to the Maldives is long and will definitely have a layover. I suggest Turkish airlines, especially if they decide to reinstate their stopover program which could include a free tour of Istanbul and hotel accommodations. Emirates is also a fabulous choice with a layover most likely in Dubai. I would suggest only flying with one layover (my friends did two in Dubai and Colombo it seemed unnecessary).
