Curator’s statement

Disney's Hollywood Studios is home to one of the most popular and immersive theme park attractions ever made: Rise of The Resistance. This immersive 18 minute experience is a must-do for any Star Wars fan, but it can be challenging to experience due to its popularity. It regularly commands lines in excess of three hours, even on slow days.

Things to do in Walt Disney World

You may have heard of the mad dash for a boarding group. While Disney continues to use boarding groups for other attractions, this is no longer the case for Rise of the Resistance. There are two ways to experience Rise of The Resistance: Standby Line or Individual Lightning Lane.

Under no circumstances should you wait in the standby line during normal park hours. The line easily tops three hours on slow days, and longer on busy days. On top of that, the ride utilizes a complex combination of three different ride systems and is prone to breakdowns. A breakdown while you wait in the standby line can quickly turn your three hour wait into a three hour wait. This can ruin your experience, and thankfully there are much better options.

  1. Rope drop during Early Entry: Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resorts are allowed entry into the parks 30 minutes before the park opens. Rise of The Resistance operates during this time. Rope dropping means being physically inside the park BEFORE early entry begins. If the park opens at 8:00am, and early entry begins at 7:30am, you should tapped into the park by 7:25am. Once the cast members “drop the rope” and allow you to go get in line for rides, immediately book it to Rise of The Resistance. Wait time with this method will normally be under 90 minutes.

  2. Purchase Individual Lighting Lane access: In addition to Genie+, Disney sells Lightning Lane access individually for some more popular rides. Pricing varies by day, but purchasing lightning lane is the most reliable way to experience the attraction with almost no wait (you typically walk right into the preshow). Individual Lightning Lanes can be purchased at 7:00am for guests staying at a Disney Resort, or at park open for guests staying off site. Individual lightning lane can sell out, so be sure to purchase as early as possible.

  3. Park Closing: The final option is to get in line right before the park closes. Wait time with this method will often be under 60 minutes.

  • Be mindful that rules and strategies change frequently at Disney World, so always reach out to your travel advisor for the most updated information!

Oga's Cantina at Galaxy's Edge: A must do during your visit to Batuu. You and your traveling companions can enjoy drinks prepared with ingredients from all over the galaxy while you mingle with bounty hunters, smugglers, and other travelers. Music is provided by R-3X, a droid and former Starspeeder 3000 Pilot.

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo: A quick-service restaurant that serves "galactic grub" you can enjoy regardless of which galaxy you are from.

The Hollywood Brown Derby: After your return to earth, you can step back in time to the golden age of Hollywood and enjoy some more typical American food at the Hollywood Brown Derby.
