Things to do in Cairo, Egypt
The (Old) Egyptian Museum: The Old Egyptian Museum is a once in a lifetime experience for Ancient Egypt fanatics. Be forewarned, there are strict laws regarding cameras in public spaces in Egypt, you can get fined or get it confiscated. Having said that, if you have a camera visible, you will get charged a fee for bringing it into the museum. Upon entering the Museum, you are immediately met with the Rosetta Stone, towering sculptures of Egyptian Pharaoh's, art in papyrus, the massive 24 karat gold tomb of Tutankhamun, and so much more. You will be left in awe, dreaming of the magic of Ancient Egypt.
Giza Plateau: Giza plateau will leave you in awe at the wonders of Ancient Egypt. It is so incredible that you may begin to understand why people speculate that it wasn't built by humans at all. Controversies aside, this is an incredible, vast space. Giza is actually a separate 'governate' in and of itself, because it is such a large expanse of land, and pyramids, but it is located within Old Cairo. If you decide to enter the Great Pyramid, be warned that it is a steep walk through the main 'shaft.' Upon entering the main chamber, you can hear the acoustics of the chamber when speaking or humming. The Great Pyramid was designed for preservation of matter, so you may start you emit a wonderful glow upon exiting.
The Sphinx is located on the other side of the Pyramids (as their guardian, or protective lion.) It is a good distance walk to the Sphinx, and it is all in the open sun, so beware not to travel to the Sphinx in the middle of the day, when the sun is at it's highest point.
Nile Maxim Dinner Cruises: You cannot leave Egypt without going on some Nile Cruises. Nile Maxim cruises offer some of the finest entertainment and belly dancing around. You will enjoy traditional Egyptian music and dance; a big fun part of Egypt's culture. Be mindful that if you're visiting Egypt during Ramadan, the month-long holy month, you will not see bellydancing during this time.
