Lawrence's "Family Business" tour: An unforgettable night at The Paramount

You know that feeling when you're about to see your absolute favorite band? The kind of electricity that makes you practically float into the venue? That’s exactly how I felt walking into The Paramount in Huntington, New York, for Lawrence's "Family Business" tour. As a travel advisor, I'm always chasing incredible experiences, but this wasn't just a concert—it was easily one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! From the moment I stepped in, I knew it was going to be a night for the books.

The Super VIP dream: Friendship & wanderlust

The main event for me started long before the house lights dropped: the Super VIP experience. Just calling it "VIP" doesn't do it justice; it was a deeply intimate experience with Lawrence. When the band walked out onto the stage for our session, I had a genuine, full-body fan moment. Seriously, I almost fainted because I still can't believe I was that close to my musical idols. Lawrence is my favorite band in the world, and that moment of seeing them up close was pure, unadulterated joy.

As a travel advisor, I can’t help but ask the big travel questions! So, I absolutely had to put them on the spot: "If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?" Their answers were fascinating. Gracie Lawrence lit up, saying she’d love to visit Greece. Clyde, on the other hand, had a sweet nostalgia, sharing that he would love to go back to Japan. The rest of the incredible bandmates were on the same page, all agreeing they’d jump at the chance to return to Australia and New Zealand. Hearing their dream destinations was a fantastic little window into their personal lives and a perfect memory to take home.

But the most insightful part of the session came with a different kind of question: the deeply personal one about their longevity. Someone asked, "How have you been able to stay together for 10 years?" Think about that—a decade in the music industry is a lifetime. Their answer was so simple, so honest, and so impactful. They explained that their secret is knowing their strengths and weaknesses as individuals and, more importantly, that they are friends first. That foundation of genuine friendship is what makes the "Family Business" work, and you can feel it in their music and on stage. It's a true testament to building something solid and sustainable.

A profound insight into a musician's life

The conversation then moved to the story behind one of my favorite songs, "Hotel TV." The genesis of the song came from a revelation Clyde had while they were constantly touring and seeing the world. He shared that, for all the incredible sights and experiences they have on the road, the hotel TV is the one thing that stays constant. Think about that for a second. Every city, every country, every hotel is different, but that little black box in the corner is always the same.

I found that observation incredibly insightful! It speaks to the strange, sometimes isolating reality of being a world-traveling musician—the constant change, yet the tiny, persistent comfort of a familiar screen. That kind of profound thought is exactly what makes their songwriting so unique and relatable. It’s an artist finding a universal truth in the mundane.

Pre-show fun & Paramount's A-plus service

After the Super VIP session, the main VIP experience was pure, unbridled fun. The band came out onto the floor and really mixed it up with the fans. It was a beautiful, chaotic burst of excitement that truly got the energy going for the concert ahead. It was just a taste of the infectious energy Lawrence brings to every show.

Before the main show, I took a little break to refuel. I grabbed a delicious meal at Spotlight, and seriously, the burger was delicious—highly recommend it! But while I was navigating the venue, I noticed something remarkable about The Paramount that deserves special mention. The ushers went above and beyond the call of duty. Normally, ushers just point you in the right direction, right? But here, they actually walked me all the way to my seat! That small touch of personalized service elevated the whole evening.

Jacob Jeffries: The opening act we all need

Speaking of things that never happen, let's talk about the opening act, Jacob Jeffries. I've been to enough concerts to know that opening acts rarely, if ever, start on time. But Jacob Jeffries came out right at 8 pm on the dot! I’ve never seen that level of promptness before, and I sincerely appreciated it.

But let me tell you, I would have waited for him anyway, because Jacob Jeffries was incredible! He was a burst of pure, contagious energy, hyping us up for Lawrence and showcasing his immense talent. He is a phenomenal performer and songwriter. I truly hope he has his own headlining show in New York one day because I will absolutely be the first person to get tickets to see him again. The cherry on top? I met him after his set, and he was so genuinely nice and grateful that people came early to see him. That humility and appreciation for the audience is something you don't always expect, and it made me an instant, lifelong fan.

Lawrence's masterclass: Pure, live soul-pop

Finally, the moment we were all waiting for— Lawrence took the stage, and they were, in a word, incredible. If you’re tired of seeing bands that rely on pre-recorded tracks and studio tricks, this is the band you need to see. This wasn't a show; it was an experience. You truly don't see bands nowadays who perform with such raw, real talent, not using backing tracks or autotune. Every note, every harmony, every horn blast was 100 percent live.

They added a fun, theatrical twist to the night by coming out in spectacular costumes! It was a medley of Broadway and pop culture: they came out as Glinda and Elphaba from Wicked, a cat from Cats, King George, one of the characters from Mamma Mia!, and even Connie Francis from Just in Time. It was hilarious and high-energy, and it proved they don't take themselves too seriously—just their music.

Gracie Lawrence: A force to be reckoned with

Let's talk about Gracie Lawrence for a minute. She is, without a doubt, a force to be reckoned with. Her presence, her power, and her incredible vocal talent are unmatched. In the VIP session, when asked which celebrity she'd go to dinner with, she chose the iconic Amy Winehouse.

But honestly, if I could go out with any celebrity, it would be Gracie Lawrence. She is my ideal singing partner. The first time I ever heard her voice, I had to stop and check if it was even real. I actually thought it might be AI because she's that good! Her control, her tone, and the soul she puts into every lyric are just mind-blowing. If it were logistically possible, I would see her at every single show. She truly is one of the most talented vocalists working today.

The heart of the family business

The final, and perhaps most important, takeaway from the night is this: Lawrence is a band that genuinely cares about its art. I appreciate how they refuse to simply give in to the industry standards. They are focused on making authentic, soulful music that everyone can enjoy, without compromising their vision. That commitment to craft and connection is what makes them such a transcendent live act. They are building a genuine, devoted family of fans, and I am proud to be part of it.

Need to know

To wrap up this incredible review, I have to give my fellow travelers a few essential tips. If you're looking for a good hotel to stay at near The Paramount, you can't go wrong with the Marriott Melville or the Hilton Long Island in Huntington, New York. And trust me on this one: if you’re looking for a good breakfast to fuel up before a day of traveling or winding down after a late show, you need to try the Hilton Long Island in Huntington's breakfast buffet—it’s excellent!

For some great dining spots in the area, check out Ben's Kosher Delicatessen for a classic deli and restaurant experience, the beloved local fixture On Parade Diner, the comforting food at Munday's Diner, or the flavorful modern cuisine at Mogu Modern Chinese.

Buying tickets to Lawrence is genuinely the best decision I’ve ever made. It was a spectacular concert, a personal masterclass in music, and a truly unforgettable evening. I absolutely cannot wait to see them the next time they are in Long Island!
