Kiawah Island Golf Resor - Kiawah Island, South Carolina

I’ve had some of my best tennis experiences at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The Roy Barth Tennis Center is exceptional, with 22 clay courts, including some that are lit for evening play. I recommend booking a clinic in advance if you want to brush up on your game or even a private lesson—trust me, the instruction here is top-notch.

What I loved about this resort was that the quality of the courts is excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxed but professional. I also appreciate the variety of programs for all skill levels; even as a more casual player, I felt very welcome.

After a morning match, I’d often unwind by strolling along the beautiful beach or taking a bike ride around the island. The scenery here is just stunning, and it’s easy to switch from tennis mode to full relaxation.

We stayed at The Sanctuary Hotel for its luxury vibe and great ocean views. If you’re traveling with a group, the villas are spacious and well-equipped. I've never been more pampered and felt more important!

The Ryder Cup Bar is my go-to for a sunset cocktail. The views over the ocean are unbeatable, especially after a full day of tennis for me and golf for my husband. For a more local feel, try Fat Hen on nearby Johns Island—a dive bar-style restaurant with delicious Southern-inspired cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere.

Sea Pines Resort - Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

Sea Pines Resort holds a special place for me because it was one of the first tennis resorts I visited in South Carolina. The Stan Smith Tennis Academy is a big draw here, and it’s where I first took a serious clinic that really improved my skills. With 20 clay courts, there’s plenty of space for everyone, and the programs are diverse enough to fit any schedule.

The mix of casual and competitive tennis. I could join a round-robin tournament in the morning and still have time for a private lesson later.

Hilton Head has that classic coastal charm, and it’s easy to get around by bike. I loved riding my bike from the tennis center to the beach or exploring the resort’s extensive trails. The shady, tree-lined paths are unbelievably beautiful!

I recommend staying at The Inn & Club at Harbour Town. It’s right next to the courts and close to the golf courses if you want to mix in some golf with your tennis.

The Quarterdeck is perfect for post-match drinks and casual dining. I’ve spent many evenings there enjoying live music and the marina views. Make sure to take a stroll along the docks and admire the huge yachts moored at Harbour Town—it's a fantastic spot for people-watching and dreaming about life on the water. For a more local feel, The Frosty Frog Café is a fun dive bar nearby where you can get a 'Frog-rita' and relax with the locals.

Wild Dunes Resort - Isle of Palms, South Carolina

Wild Dunes is a great choice if you want a tennis resort that’s close to the beach. I’ve always found the tennis center here to be one of the friendliest, with 17 clay courts and plenty of social events. My first girls' trip here was unforgettable—it’s a short ride to the Charleston Open tennis facility, where we spent a lot of time watching some of the greats play!

The courts are just a short walk from the beach, so I can play in the morning and then relax by the water in the afternoon. There’s plenty to do beyond tennis, like paddleboarding, golf or just lounging at the pool.

The Boardwalk Inn is my favorite place to stay because of its location and cozy atmosphere and proximity to the courts and beach.

Check out The Dinghy for a laid-back vibe and great drinks after a day on the courts. The live music adds a fun touch to the evenings. For a local dive experience, Acme Lowcountry Kitchen is a casual spot nearby with great seafood and a fun atmosphere.

Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort - Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

I’ve come to Palmetto Dunes several times for its excellent tennis programs and 19 clay courts. We've stayed here a few times when our teams made it to the State Championship tournament!

The resort’s beachfront setting is fantastic, and I’d often wrap up a tennis session with some paddleboarding or a walk along the beach.

I recommend the Marriott Hilton Head Resort & Spa if you want direct beach access and upscale amenities. If you prefer more privacy, the villas are a great option.

The Dunes House is an ideal spot for a beachfront drink and live music. Poseidon Rooftop Bar is another great choice for a lively evening out. There are just so many great places to choose from! If you’re in the mood for a more divey spot, head over to Reilley's Grill & Bar for a more local, casual feel and some great happy hour deals
