Surf Synergy: All-Inclusive Wellness Adventure in Costa Rica

The Surf Synergy experience is an all-inclusive one-week package. Each visit begins with a pick-up at the international airport and a scenic hour-and-a-half drive to the resort. Whether you're traveling with your family, friends, or alone, nothing is better than knowing that you'll be taken care of well from the moment you land in Costa Rica.

The guest rooms are spread out between bungalows and a main villa. The decor is simple and modern, with natural elements and textures. The grounds feature two pools, a gym, dining areas and a game room/movie room. On-site permaculture gardens and fruit trees are a source for many of the ingredients for the wonderful farm-to-table meals. A carambola (starfruit) tree was overflowing with fruit while I was there, and I was happy to bring home a few sweet specimens.

My visit to Surf Synergy included a tour of their beautiful property as well as a surfing session with one of their expert coaches. I also got a chance to experience a recovery massage and lunch. The massage was amazing, with a therapist skilled in targeting surfers’ sore muscles. The in-house chef custom made me a fresh and delicious vegan poke bowl. Surf Synergy understands and accommodates any dietary needs. As a vegan, I was impressed with the simple, healthy and delicious meal, which was the perfect fuel for my afternoon surf session with coach Miguel.

A week at Surf Synergy includes five surf sessions (warm water, no wetsuit needed!). Each session is with one-on-one coaching followed by expert video analysis.The lesson experience comes with a fully-equipped surf trailer which has showers, snacks, first-aid kits, rash guards and everything needed for a safe and comfortable session.

After my own personal coaching session, I got to observe the last day of surfing for a group of guests. Everyone was standing up and riding waves, and the smiles and high-fives were flowing! The group, composed of couples, families and solo travelers, had become friends, and I could tell lifelong connections were made that week.

For guests who don’t surf, there are a variety of other activity options. Complimentary bikes are available to ride into town and the beach, or it’s a few minutes’ Uber ride. On-property wellness activities include massage, yoga/movement classes, weight-training and breathwork. There are also great offsite excursions in the area…everything from zip-lining to waterfall hikes, boating, national park tours and more.
