Things to do in Yogyakarta

  • Pura Mangkunegaran- Where the kings and queens of Java live, but you can get a sneak peek of their lifestyle.

  • Ulen Sentalu- A restaurant and coffee shop plus a time-capsule-like museum. Believe me, it's cozy.

  • Malioboro Street- So many things to do here, from shopping, learning how to make Indonesian food and taking pictures wearing traditional Javanese attire.

Places to eat & drink in Yogyakarta

  • Selat mbak lies — a beef steak dish from Indonesia that is based on western-style cooking. It is served with a sweet, watery sauce made of garlic, vinegar and sweet soy sauce. You can choose the spice level.

  • Sate buntel ibu HJ Bejo — seasoned fatty minced meat (usually beef, lamb or goat meat) wrapped in a lamb omentum or caul fat and wrapped surround a relatively large bamboo skewer.

  • Es dawet pasar gede — An Indonesian traditional drink, typically a chilled dessert. It is made of green jellies (cendol) made from rice flour or tapioca colored using pandan as a natural dye, served with coconut milk and palm sugar syrup. You can enjoy this drink while experiencing Pasar, which is a traditional farmers market.

  • Warung Klangenan Patang Puluhan — Serves choices of Indonesian cuisine ranging from dessert. Enjoy your food surrounded by an antique Indonesian vibe.

  • Tempo gelato- fresh and sweet gelato to freshen your day after a hot activity.
