Curator’s statement
The Cape Thompson Hotel captivated me with its perfect balance of luxury and authentic Cabo charm. Every room frames the iconic El Arco and the endless blue horizon. I was truly impressed by how the property elevates the guest experience through thoughtful design, exceptional culinary offerings and those magical moments like spotting whales from the infinity pool or watching surfers tackle Monuments Beach below. What truly sets The Cape apart, though, is how the staff understands the art of hospitality. They anticipate needs and you are met with things you didn't even know you needed, until you had it.

As a travel advisor, getting to experience luxury properties firsthand is essential for matching clients with their perfect getaway. My recent FAM trip to The Cape, A Thompson Hotel in Cabo San Lucas was nothing short of extraordinary — here's my professional insight into this stunning property.

The Cape features 161 meticulously designed rooms and suites, all with breathtaking ocean views and private terraces or balconies. The property's architecture brilliantly frames views of the iconic El Arco and the dazzling Sea of Cortez from virtually every angle. The Cape's residential options offer full kitchens, washer/dryers, spacious living areas and private terraces. They are perfect for longer stays or clients who appreciate having all the comforts of home while traveling:

Penthouse Residences: Spanning 3,000+ square feet with 3–4 bedrooms.
Surfer Villa: Spectacular 5,700 sq. ft. three-bedroom villa with a private plunge pool.
Thompson Suites: One and two-bedroom options with expansive living areas

Day 1: Welcome to paradise
Our FAM trip kicked off with a welcome reception at The Rooftop — the only rooftop lounge in Cabo San Lucas. As the sun descended over the Pacific, we sipped craft cocktails while taking in the 360-degree views that instantly communicate to clients why this property is a full on luxury experience.

Day 2: Immersive Property Experience
Breakfast at The Ledge set the tone for exceptional culinary experiences throughout our stay. The restaurant's open-air setting overlooks Monuments Beach. The buffet had many local specialties as well as favorites — but if you're ordering a la carte — get the Cape Toast! It's like a breakfast churro.

The site tour revealed thoughtful design elements throughout the property, including the striking open-air lobby that frames perfect views of El Arco. The seamless indoor-outdoor flow creates a distinctly Cabo experience.

Our VIP Cabana experience is a highlight that will impress even the most discerning clients. Complete with dedicated service, and prime ocean views, the pool scene strikes the perfect balance between energy and exclusivity. There is no cost, just a food and beverage minimum. While relaxing poolside, we were treated to an impromptu whale-watching experience!
Currents Spa deserves special mention for wellness-focused clients. The therapeutic treatments incorporate local elements, and the serene setting offers a perfect retreat. The massage and facial treatments were genuinely transformative rather than simply perfunctory.
Dinner at Acre was an exceptional off-property experience worth recommending. This farm-to-table restaurant nestled in a tropical forest, showcases Cabo's evolving culinary scene. The sticky rice is worth ordering three portions... What an amazing experience eating in a full-on restaurant enveloped by the jungle.
Day 3: Cultural Immersion & Further Exploration
Another beautiful breakfast at The Ledge before venturing to Tamarindos for an immersive farm-to-table experience arranged by Visit Los Cabos. This excursion highlighted the cultural and culinary offerings beyond the resort. The food was served family style, so we got to try it all, and the cocktails were amazing — get the Hibiscus Margarita!
Our farewell dinner in the Surfer Villa showcased the exceptional private dining and event capabilities of The Cape. This space would be perfect for clients celebrating milestone occasions or seeking exclusive experiences. The chef's thoughtful preparation and personalized menu demonstrated the property's ability to create bespoke experiences.

Need to know
The property expertly balances luxury with Cabo's laid-back surf culture — sophistication without stuffiness.
The property works beautifully for couples and adult groups, while remaining suitable for families (without being overtly kid-centric.)
Whale watching from November to April adds tremendous value — we spotted whales from nearly every vantage point in the hotel.
