Curator’s statement

San Miguel de Allende is one of Mexico’s most charming historical towns, famous for its cobblestone alleys, colorful architecture, and vibrant cultural scene. The heart of the city is the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, a stunning baroque church built from pink sandstone that glows beautifully at night under the city lights—making it one of the most photographed landmarks in Mexico. Beyond its historic charm, San Miguel is also known for its thriving art galleries, artisan markets, and cozy cafés where creativity and culture collide.

  1. Take a stroll through the numerous art galleries and artisan markets. The favorites are Fabrica La Aurora and Exim.

  2. Visit Jardin Allende: The city’s central plaza is located in the historic district with the famous Parroquia de San Miguel pastel pink church.

  3. Spend an afternoon visiting the various Mercados in the historic district, full of local art and local cuisine.

  4. Take a day trip to a local vineyard—yes, Mexico does produce its own wines. Bodega Dos Buhos is a local vineyard just 20 minutes away from San Miguel. It has a beautiful courtyard with exceptional wines.

  5. Take a cooking class at the San Miguel’s premier cooking school, Sazón. It is housed in a magnificent 18th century casa in the heart of town in the highlands of central Mexico. Sazón is the cooking school of Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada, and is open to everyone, not just guests of the hotel.

Need to know

San Miguel is located approximately 60 minutes from the QRO airport—make sure to book transport ahead of time. I personally used Bajio GO for our transport and I highly recommend them.
