Advisor - A Tropical Escape to Puerto Rico
Curator’s statement

Puerto Rico is one of my favorite destinations to recommend because it effortlessly blends culture, history, and tropical beauty without feeling overwhelming. From the moment you arrive, there’s a warmth to the island. It’s the people, the music, the pace.... It immediately invites you to slow down. You will smile nonstop. I love how travelers can spend one day wandering historic streets and the next street surrounded by beautiful greenery or ocean views. It’s the kind of place where relaxation and exploration naturally coexist. This makes it an ideal escape for travelers who want a meaningful escape without sacrificing comfort or convenience.

Things to do in Puerto Rico

  • Old San is where I always suggest starting the trip. There are colorful buildings, cobblestone streets, and an ocean breeze that’s very relaxing. I recommend taking your time here. There are many cafes to choose from, local shops, and the history of the city will amaze you.

  • El Yunque National Forest offers a completely different side of Puerto Rico. It is a refreshing change of pace from the coast. The rainforest trails, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks make it feel immersive and grounding.

  • Castillo San Felipe del Morro is one of those places that truly feels iconic. I recommend visiting earlier in the day when it’s cooler and less crowded, then taking in the view of the ocean from above. The views alone make the visit worthwhile, even if you’re not a big history fanatic.

  • Condado Beach is perfect for travelers who want easy access to the ocean without leaving the city. I like to recommend it for relaxing on the beach in between sightseeing.

  • La Placita de Santurce is one of the best places to experience Puerto Rico’s nightlife. I suggest going earlier in the evening to grab a drink and take in the atmosphere because it gets lively later at night. It’s energetic and full of character.

Places to eat & drink in Puerto Rico

  • La Mallorquina: A classic stop in Old San Juan. It’s perfect for breakfast or a casual lunch. It’s a great introduction to Puerto Rican flavors.

  • Marmalade: This spot is ideal for a special evening out. The experience will feel intense but extremely romantic. This is ideal for travelers celebrating something special.

  • Santaella: This place offers a modern take on Puerto Rican cuisine in a relaxed but stylish setting. Santaella is a great option if you want something thoughtful without being too polished.

  • Cafe' Manolin: This is a place that screams simple and authentic. It’s casual, comforting, and a spot that locals genuinely enjoy.

  • La Factoria: This place gives you more than just a bar experience. There are multiple rooms with different vibes in each room. There’s creative cocktails and live music.

Need to know

Uber is widely available throughout San Juan and works well for getting around the city. If you plan to explore beyond San Juan to places like El Yunque or quieter beaches, renting a car offers more flexibility and freedom.
