The first thing that struck me when I visited Ireland was the kindness of the people. Warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly, there’s an openness here that feels increasingly rare. Beyond the landscapes and historic sites, it’s often the conversations, humor, and small moments of hospitality that stay with you long after the trip ends. While Dublin is a fantastic introduction, Ireland truly reveals itself once you leave the capital behind. This itinerary takes you through some of the country’s most extraordinary regions, where culture, history, and landscape become deeply intertwined. Medieval ruins rise from rolling countryside, sheep graze beneath dramatic mountain passes, and winding coastal roads open onto endless Atlantic views. At times, the scenery reminded me remarkably of New Zealand—vast, cinematic, and constantly changing—yet Ireland has a character entirely its own, shaped by centuries of history, storytelling, and resilience. From the wild beauty of Kerry and Connemara to the charm of Kilkenny and Galway, this journey offers far more than a traditional road trip. It’s an opportunity to experience the atmosphere, rhythm, and spirit of Ireland properly—and, like so many visitors beforeyou, you’ll almost certainly find yourself wanting to return again and again.

Mykonos holds a special place in my heart—it’s where I spent my very first holiday with my partner, Paul, back in the late 90s. Back then, the island was already buzzing, but it felt more laid-back, carefree, and definitely easier on the wallet. I’ve returned regularly ever since, watching it evolve into the sophisticated, cosmopolitan destination it is today. Yet, despite the glamour, the essentials remain: Mykonos still boasts some of the best beaches in Europe and truly fantastic dining. While it’s world-renowned for its high-energy nightlife and legendary beach clubs, it can just as easily be enjoyed at a slow pace. Chora has kept its iconic charm, with winding cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, and those famous vibrant blue doors. Whether for couples, friends, or its long-standing community as a LGBTQ+-friendly resort, Mykonos remains the ultimate Aegean getaway.

Australia is a striking country with iconic cities, breathtaking scenery, and unique wildlife. It’s a long journey for many of us, but so rewarding—it actually took me 10 trips to finally make it to the West! I was blown away by southwest Australia’s sheer beauty and diversity, from the towering Karri and Jarrah forests to some of the most stunning beaches I’ve ever seen. For gastronomes, it’s a paradise. The dining options are fantastic, and the vineyards are world-class, with Margaret River at the epicenter. My journey started in Busselton (flying in directly from Sydney, which was so convenient), exploring the Margaret River region before heading to Albany to discover the rugged southern coast. I finished by driving back to Perth for some city exploration, a tour of the Pinnacles, and a final, relaxing stop on Rottnest Island. It was the perfect mix of coastal scenery, natural escapes, and high-end dining. Whether you're traveling as a couple, a family, or an adventure seeker, this region delivers. I visited in early March, and the timing was perfect: amazing weather, quiet roads, and no crowds.

Since my first trip to South Africa more than 20 years ago, I’ve returned several times, drawn back by its breathtaking natural beauty, extraordinary wildlife, vibrant culture, and exceptional dining found across the country. It is a compelling year-round destination, and the Garden Route in particular offers an inspiring blend of dramatic coastal scenery, nature experiences, and relaxed beach towns—with the added advantage of malaria-free safari reserves just a few hours away.

Iceland is a truly natural wonder. Its dramatic landscapes range from sprawling glaciers and powerful waterfalls to geysers, geothermal spas, active volcanoes, and a breathtaking coastline—from the towering cliffs of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula to the otherworldly black-sand beach of Reynisfjara, famously featured in Game of Thrones. And to top it all off, there is the possibility of witnessing the mesmerizing display of the Northern Lights. After many years of travel, this remains one of my most memorable travel experiences.

Egypt is one of the world’s most iconic destinations—from the majestic pyramids and Great Sphinx of Giza, to the extraordinary temples and tombs lining the Nile, and the beautiful resort coast of the Red Sea. It makes an ideal winter escape thanks to its mild, sunny climate. This itinerary begins with three days in bustling Cairo, followed by a four-day Nile cruise exploring Egypt’s most important ancient sites, and finishes with time to unwind by the Red Sea for those who enjoy a beach escape. Egypt can be traveled independently, but booking through a trusted DMC (Destination Management Company) greatly enhances the experience—offering smoother logistics, expert guides, and deeper historical insight. If traveling independently, I strongly recommend booking guided tours in Cairo in particular. Egypt’s history is incredibly rich, and having expert context makes a meaningful difference.

I’ve always been drawn to Japanese culture and aesthetics. Deeply rooted in tradition, with a strong sense of respect, politeness, and ancient practices—from the tea ceremony and martial arts to traditional theatre and the quiet beauty of wabi-sabi—Japan has also fully embraced modernity. Cutting-edge technology (the high-speed Shinkansen, robotics) coexists with a thriving contemporary art scene (Takashi Murakami, TeamLab, manga, anime). Tokyo perfectly embodies this balance between the ancient and the modern. The city’s beautiful temples and serene gardens stand alongside striking architecture, a vibrant culture scene, and an amazing culinary landscape. It holds the most Michelin stars in the world, yet also offers countless small restaurants serving simple, delicious, and affordable meals. Over the years, I’ve visited Tokyo many times, mainly for work, but recent trips have allowed me to rediscover the city with fresh eyes—more dynamic, open, and diverse than ever, and still one of the safest cities in the world.

A safari is, quite rightly, high on many travelers’ bucket lists. I went on my first one more than 20 years ago and was completely captivated by the experience. Watching wildlife in its natural environment, the thrill of searching for the Big Five, and the sheer beauty of the African landscape were so exhilarating that I’ve been returning to the continent ever since. For first-timers, planning a safari can feel daunting—choosing where and when to go, understanding logistics, and knowing what to expect.
