I cannot thank Heather Budd enough for making our Anniversary trip to Hawaii so perfectly tailored to us! We wanted to experience the best of Hawaii, in a relaxing way, and she picked the best resort with a perfect balance of activities and beach days to lounge and relax.
Heather suggested The Westin as our temporary home away from home in Hawaii and it was outstanding. The staff truly embrace the Aloha spirit and are especially kind and helpful in every way. From the smiling housekeepers with their cheerful "Alohas", the kind young men who set up our beach chairs and umbrella in the morning, to the very helpful concierge, all made sure your stay was pleasant. They went above and beyond and brought us the most gorgeous tropical flowers in celebration of our 35th Anniversary - what an amazing surprise! I have no doubt it was Heather who informed The Westin of our Anniversary celebration, and I was very touched by her thoughtfulness and kindness.
The helicopter ride Heather recommended was exhilarating and was the best way to see the most spectacular views of Hawaii’s volcanoes and valleys, along with many waterfalls. After the helicopter ride, we enjoyed our Sunset Photography Session with Capture Aloha at DT Fleming Beach. Lisa, the photographer (owner), met us there and made us feel like honeymooners again. We had not had photos taken since our wedding and were a little awkward, but Lisa made us feel special on our Anniversary Day. She also kindly drove us back to The Westin after the photoshoot. She sent us one "Sneak Peek" photo, and we are looking forward to getting our digital photos in about a week. For our Anniversary dinner, Heather recommended Leilanis and made sure we were in a cozy, quiet little corner on the second floor overlooking the ocean. The food was delicious; our waitress was sweet and attentive and took our picture to celebrate our special day.
The private jeep Jungle Tour on the Road to Hana, Heather recommended was AMAZING!!! The Road to Hana was very narrow and with more curves than you could imagine next to steep cliffs, and we were happy to sit back and let Alec do all the driving! We learned Alec has been doing this for about 30 years and was so knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed his stories immensely as we traveled the Road to Hana. He tailored our trip to us and took us hiking through the bamboo forest and many "hidden" waterfalls off the beaten path. He also bought us a snack and later lunch at a quaint local "Halfway to Hana" family roadside stop.
The Sunset Cruise was particularly relaxing, with very heavy appetizers, that was more than enough for a dinner, with a yummy Mai Tai (that I grew to love on Maui!). The captain asked if we wanted to see some whales (even though it was getting towards the end of whale season) and took us to a special place where we were treated to "whale blows" and saw some whale fins playing about - we also were treated to a spinning dolphin who jumped well out of the water! We were lucky to end the day with a beautiful orange/red sunset.
Sadly, the weather didn't cooperate for the Sunrise on Mount Haleakala, as the sun did not make an appearance, but even the amazing Heather cannot control the tropical Hawaiian weather! We all watched patiently and expectantly as we saw a wee bit of orange peeking through the clouds, but unfortunately the clouds won out that day. It was a long trip up the mountain, with pick up at 2:15 am, we arrived a little before 5:00 am to get a front row view of the Majestic Sunrise. It was 30 degrees up there and with the wind, it was VERY cold. The tour provided fleece-lined ponchos with hoods to help with the cold, which was very much welcomed! While the sun didn't make an appearance, I do get to say that I was at the very highest point in Maui at 10,000 feet! The breakfast on the way home was at an old Sugar Plantation, which was beautiful and historical - so that was also a plus.
Overall, we had never used a Travel Agent before, and Heather Budd far exceeded our expectations in planning our 35th Anniversary trip to Hawaii! Her patience and quick response in answering each of the many e-mails was remarkable. The care and knowledge she showed in selecting the best flight, resort and every activity was tailored just to us. There were so many options for activities to choose from, can be overwhelming, but Heather helped to reassure that the Vendors were well vetted, which helped the process immensely. You could tell that she really wanted to make this trip special for us.
Thanks again Heather, for an Anniversary vacation with memories that will last a lifetime!

A Guide to Exploring Greece's Peloponnese Region: From Nafplio to Costa Navarino
I love the Peloponnese for a lot of reasons—but most of all, it feels like a part of Greece that has yet to be fully discovered by the rest of the world. The Peloponnese is Greece at its most elemental and authentic. It is a landscape where myth and memory overlap in every olive grove and every curve of the coast. It’s where you can stand in a perfectly preserved ancient theater in the morning, swim in water so clear it looks lit from within by afternoon, and end the day in a medieval citadel watching the sun set behind stone towers and cypress trees. Unlike the islands, the Peloponnese feels lived-in rather than touristed: small vineyards, seaside villages, Byzantine fortresses, and a rhythm of life that invites you to slow down and stay a little longer. It’s a place for travelers who want depth, not checklist travel—and for those who find luxury not just in fine hotels, but in space, quiet, and connection.

Miraval Berkshires: A Wicked Good Wellness Weekend
I spent an amazing long weekend at Miraval in the Berkshires and fell in love with what feels like an elevated adults only "camp" where activities range from wellness-focused meditations and yoga to indulgent dinners at 1894 at the Wyndhurst Mansion. It is the perfect long weekend getaway for a solo trip to recharge, a couples trip to connect and relax, or a very fun friends' trip (girls, guys, both!).

Solar Eclipse Chasing: Why a Cruise Might Be the Best Way to Experience a Total Solar Eclipse
If you've ever seen a total solar eclipse—or spoken to anyone who has—you know the first thing they'll tell you: Being in the path of totality is essential! If the sun is only 99 percent covered, you won't get the same experience. That last one percent silences the birds, turns day into night, and reveals the sun's dancing corona. For me, the spectacle is very moving and "totally" addictive.

Pacuare Lodge: Wild Luxury in Costa Rica
As someone who craves truly unique experiences and loves adventure travel, the Pacuare Lodge was somewhere that felt like it would be my ideal escape. And it lived up to all my expectations, in the best way! This eco lodge is tucked deep in the heart of Costa Rica’s most pristine rainforest on the banks of the Pacuare River—you literally raft to it, which is amazing. It is set on 860 acres, and with just 20 villas and surrounded by nature, it is a haven of peace. I also love that Pacuare Lodge’s biggest priority is preserving the land, the culture, and the environment in this most special region.

There are many good reasons to visit England's National Parks – breathtaking scenery, charming villages, the extraordinary diversity of plants and animals – but did you know that Britain's literary history is well represented too? Whichever park you visit, you can enjoy literary festivals and events, welcoming pubs, restaurants and hotels and miles and miles of footpaths and trails suitable for all levels of fitness and ability.

St Vincent and the Grenadines: Discover a True "Under-the-Radar" Paradise
What makes the Grenadines feel so special? It’s their intimate atmosphere and untouched beauty. When I visit these small islands stretching between St Vincent and Grenada, it feels like traveling back in time to the old Caribbean, before the cruise ships and mass tourism. The islands have a real sense of exclusivity with their secluded beaches, dazzling marine life and intensely beautiful landscapes. This feels far, far away from the modern world (in the best way!). Each island offers its own unique charm — visit Canouan for its luxury, Bequia for its culture or Mustique for its private tranquility. I spent a magical week sailing on a catamaran in St Vincent and the Grenadines. We visited St Vincent, Bequia, Canouan, Union Island, Tobago Cays and Mayreau. As you may know, many islands in St Vincent and the Grenadines suffered serious damage as a result of Hurricane Beryl. Now is a wonderful time to support tourism in this country as it rebuilds. The resorts and islands mentioned here are open for business, and deeply appreciate your support.

Many of us are lucky enough to be able to take cruises in the Caribbean and Mediterranean. Those two seas together account for around almost two-thirds of cruise vacations taken every year. But what about the rest of the world? Nile Cruises Compared: Find the Perfect Journey for Your Egyptian Vacation
When visiting Egypt, taking a cruise on the Nile makes perfect sense. Historically, Egypt's civilization has been centered on the river, so by sailing the Nile you get to see the best the country has to offer. A typical Nile itinerary will have you stay in Cairo for a few days, then fly to Luxor to start the cruise. Sail south to Aswan and back to Luxor. Then, fly back to Cairo. By flying, you bypass a stretch of the river which would take days to sail and has fewer attractions than other parts of the river.
Which cruise you choose will depend on which operator you prefer, your chosen cruise length and whether the itinerary focuses on a relaxed journey or more extensive historical exploration. Also consider the excursions and the optional extensions before or after your cruise; a trip to Jerusalem or Dubai will add another fascinating dimension to your trip.

The Tropical Hideaway: Bequia, St Vincent and the Grenadines
After a week sailing on a catamaran around St Vincent and the Grenadines we wanted to spend a few days relaxing somewhere on dry land before heading home. We chose Bequia, and I am so glad that we did!

Yellow Springs - A Charming Ohio Village
I grew up in the countryside just outside the village of Yellow Springs, Ohio, and returned after living abroad for 12 years. It's a great spot if you love being outdoors as there are some amazing places to hike in the area. The village also offers great restaurants and eclectic shopping at independent and artisan shops. And now that Dave Chappelle's club, the YS Firehouse, is open, the village is seeing even more visitors – so here is some local advice on visiting my charming hometown.

Virgin Voyages - 4 Fabulous Nights on the Scarlet Lady
As someone that had NEVER been on a cruise before, I was not sure what to expect on our four night Caribbean cruise aboard Virgin Voyage's Scarlet Lady. We embarked from Miami, had a day at sea, a day in Key West, then onto Bimini and finally back to Miami. Despite some less than ideal weather, we had a really good time!

A Caribbean Christmas in Grenada
As the holiday season approaches, many dream of a white Christmas, but we usually trade snowflakes for palm trees! We spent last Christmas on Grenada, the Spice Isle of the Caribbean. From the stunning beaches to the vibrant culture and traditions, our holiday in Grenada was a tropical paradise.
We loved swimming and snorkeling in the crystal clear water, trying out SNUBA at the underwater sculpture park, and taking day trips to St Georges and the Grand Etang National Park for hiking and waterfall swimming. The island feels truly unspoiled and so much less touristy than some of the other Caribbean islands we have been to. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Grenada to anyone that enjoys relaxing on beautiful beaches but wants the option to have a little adventure thrown into the mix.

Before or After Greek Island Hopping - 3 Days in Athens, Greece
It is always worth stopping in Athens either at the start or the end of your Greek island-hopping trip. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot to see and do, but it is also small enough that three days is usually enough to enjoy the best of what the city has to offer. This itinerary offers a mix of ancient history, museums and vibrant neighborhoods.

The Best of Curaçao - Where to Stay, Dine and Play!
I spent a week on Curaçao celebrating a milestone birthday. Because my birthday is in early September, we always have to think about whether hurricanes will impact our Caribbean trips. The beauty of the Netherlands Antilles (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao) is that they are outside the hurricane belt and are safe bets anytime of the year. While each island is beautiful and unique, Curaçao distinguishes itself with its unique character and cultural charm. The island's less-crowded beaches, diverse underwater landscapes and vibrant arts scene provide a laid-back and authentic experience. This sets Curaçao apart from other islands as a special destination with its own captivating identity. Whether diving into the vibrant coral reefs, strolling through the colorful streets of Willemstad or savoring the diverse culinary offerings, Curaçao invites visitors to experience a fun fusion of Caribbean warmth and Dutch influence, making it a truly exceptional and unforgettable destination.

Celebrate the Holiday Season With a River Cruise to Europe’s Traditional Christmas Markets
My first ever visit to mainland Europe was to Salzburg, Austria, at Christmas — where I learned that there’s no better way to make special holiday memories than to explore the centuries-old Christmas markets in Europe. Stroll through medieval streets under twinkling lights, exploring the seasonal treats on every stall: hot chocolate, spiced gingerbread and, of course, spiced glühwein. It’s a great time to pick up unique handcrafted toys and ornaments, but be sure to save time to tour the magnificent cathedrals, palaces and opera houses! The ideal way to experience traditional Christmas markets is on a luxurious river cruise. It allows you to unpack just once while visiting multiple magical destinations, you’re taken straight to the heart of each city with no wait times to embark or disembark and you can enjoy small-group tours and unique cultural experiences at every stop.
